Neglect: The #1 Form of Child Abuse
Published August 28, 2010 by:
Bonnie Doss-Knight

Shocking, isn't it, that neglect is the #1 form of child abuse. One might expect physical abuse to outrank neglect. Not so, according to Merck Manual Home Edition - "Neglect is 3 times more common than physical abuse."

Statistics show that of 896,000 neglected and/or abused children, in the United States alone, about 1400 of them die.

Why does this occur in the "home of the brave"?  FULL STORY

Frankly, this story ticks me off seven different ways.

We could only wish for the TRUTH to be told about what REALLY happens to kids after they are UNCONSTITUTIONALLY kidnapped from their homes by CPS, their families DESTROYED by character assassination and Legal Abuse, often for utterly false allegations.

"There are more than half a million children and youth in the U.S. foster care system today. Studies reveal that children are 11 times more likely to be abused in state care than they are in their own homes, and 7 times more likely to die as a result of abuse in the foster care system."-- John Walsh Show April 16, 2003

"As many as 75 percent of all children in foster care, upon leaving the system, will have experienced sexual abuse.  One study by Johns Hopkins University found that the rate of sexual abuse within the foster-care system is more than four times as high as in the general population; in group homes, the rate of sexual abuse is more than 28 times that of the general population." --Sexual Abuse: An Epidemic in Foster Care Settings? By Orlow, Orlow & Orlow July 17, 2009

"Not since the overthrow of the Weimar Republic have the leaders of a major democracy used their offices and the mass media to disseminate invective against millions of their own citizens. In fact it was Adolph Hitler who urged that "the state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people" and who explained, in the words of Rabbi Daniel Lapin, that "as long as government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people happily will endure almost any curtailment of liberty."

Using children to tug on our heartstrings may be not only a weakness of the sentimental. It also may be a ploy by those cynical and unscrupulous enough to exploit children for their own purposes.

This is likely to be remembered as one of the most diabolical perversions of governmental power in our history, a time when we allowed children to be used and abused by fast-talking government officials and paid for it with our families, our social order and our constitutional rights."-- STEPHEN BASKERVILLE (in about 2000)

Sex assault on 11-year-old alleged
A 55-year-old man has been accused of sexual misconduct at a day care home he ran with his wife.
By PAUL WALSH, Star Tribune
Last update: August 28, 2010 - 10:42 AM

Minnesota- A 55-year-old man has been charged with twice sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at a Burnsville day care he owned with his wife.

Kay W. Brown of Eden Prairie was charged Wednesday in Dakota County District Court with second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

At the time of the alleged assaults, in the summer of 2008, Kay and Lola Brown owned and operated Kid Kare at 14600 10th Av. S., authorities said.

County Attorney James Backstrom said the day care was closed in January 2009, after the Browns ran it for about 11 years.

Also, two website listings show another day care was run out of Brown's Eden Prairie home. A phone number for that day care is no longer in service.

State records show the Browns are licensed foster parents.  FULL STORY

Court says prosecutor's evidence didn't exist
BY SUZANNE PEREZ TOBIAS
The Wichita Eagle

A Kansas appeals court has ordered a new trial for a convicted sexual predator, saying a prosecutor falsified evidence in a court proceeding.

"We can fathom no greater prejudice... than the use of nonexistent evidence by the State in the case against the respondent," noted the Kansas Court of Appeals in an opinion issued Friday.

"Simply put, attorneys are not allowed to make up evidence and use it to advance their cause."  Read more

Recession may have pushed US birth rate to new low
AP
By MARILYNN MARCHIONE, AP Medical Writer  – Fri Aug 27, 11:00 am ET

The U.S. birth rate has dropped for the second year in a row, and experts think the wrenching recession led many people to put off having children. The 2009 birth rate also set a record: lowest in a century.

I am not recommending anybody to have kids in this God-abandoned country.  You literally have to be a lawyer to keep the government from kidnapping them "In their best interest".

Nearly One Million Children in U.S. Potentially Misdiagnosed With ADHD, Study Finds

ScienceDaily (Aug. 17, 2010) — Nearly 1 million children in the United States are potentially misdiagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder simply because they are the youngest -- and most immature -- in their kindergarten class, according to new research by a Michigan State University economist.

These children are significantly more likely than their older classmates to be prescribed behavior-modifying stimulants such as Ritalin, said Todd Elder, whose study will appear in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Health Economics.

Such inappropriate treatment is particularly worrisome because of the unknown impacts of long-term stimulant use on children's health, Elder said. It also wastes an estimated $320 million-$500 million a year on unnecessary medication -- some $80 million-$90 million of it paid by Medicaid, he said.

Elder said the "smoking gun" of the study is that ADHD diagnoses depend on a child's age relative to classmates and the teacher's perceptions of whether the child has symptoms.

"If a child is behaving poorly, if he's inattentive, if he can't sit still, it may simply be because he's 5 and the other kids are 6," said Elder, assistant professor of economics. "There's a big difference between a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old, and teachers and medical practitioners need to take that into account when evaluating whether children have ADHD."

ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed behavioral disorder for kids in the United States, with at least 4.5 million diagnoses among children under age 18, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, there are no neurological markers for ADHD (such as a blood test), and experts disagree on its prevalence, fueling intense public debate about whether ADHD is under-diagnosed or over-diagnosed

Parenting Under Scrutiny

Chris Gottlieb defends parents for a living. She is with the Family Defense Clinic at New York University School of Law, which represents parents accused of child abuse and neglect and tries to keep families together. With that daily backdrop, she read our discussion here a few weeks ago — the one about parents judging other parents harshly — through a somewhat different lens.

She had recently published an article in the University of Baltimore Law Review about “how the tendency to judge mothering harshly plays out for the poor and minority women who come under the scrutiny of the child welfare system.”  FULL STORY

Dear Supporter of Parental Rights,

Yesterday was a huge day for the parental rights movement. First, a story run on CBS.com Tuesday night gained attention throughout the day – an article about our growing success with Senate Resolution 519 which opposes ratification of the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Additionally, the San Francisco-based magazine Mother Jones posted an article attacking our work for parental rights.

As a result, ParentalRights.org president Michael Farris was invited to be on the Alan Colmes radio show tonight at 11:06 Eastern (8:06 Pacific). Mr. Colmes is a liberal commentator, formerly of the Hannity and Colmes dialog show. “This is a real indication that our grassroots efforts are starting to gain critical mass,” Farris says. “When mainstream media and ultra-liberal outlets like Mother Jones start paying attention to us, we are on the path to victory. Besides that, I love it when the radicals from Mother Jones call me a ‘mastermind’.”

If you can, listen to Mr. Colmes’ show tonight or check it out on his website in the next day or two: www.Alan.com. For many of you, he is not your usual fare – but please check out his interview with Mike. If Colmes gets good ratings with this issue, it may lead to more such interviews in other major media outlets.

Second, yesterday was a huge day because our email to you did extremely well – and it continues to produce dividends. Its message made it clear that ParentalRights.org exists to benefit all parents, including parents of public school students. Every parent has the right to direct the upbringing of their child.

You passed the message along, and it is gaining traction wherever it is read. If you have not passed it on yet, please pull out that email and do so. Or just email all your friends and ask them to check out one vital link: http://parentalrightsus.org/palmdale (That is a copy of that email, available online.)

I am so excited by what is happening right now, and I hope through this email you now are, too. Let’s work together to keep this momentum going!

EDITORIAL: Abusing due process
Iowa's child-protection registry creates new victims
By THE WASHINGTON TIMES
6:41 p.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2010

The Hawkeye State is one of America's child-abuse hotbeds, at least according to the latest federal statistics from state child welfare agencies.

....How has Iowa gone from heartland to hellhole? The answer is that it hasn't. And the millions of Americans on such lists in 45 other states reflect the same imaginary tide of abuse. Later this fall, a U.S. Supreme Court case will bring national attention to the issue.

Iowa's parents are no worse than any others. A combination of a callous bureaucracy and poorly written laws has failed to put children's interests first and torn families apart. People whose names are added to Iowa's registry and may lose jobs or child custody as a result most often aren't accused of a crime, let alone indicted or actually convicted. An investigator determines whether 51 percent of the evidence points toward a case of abuse, a supervisor signs off, and the name goes on the list. If the "perpetrator" wants to appeal, instead of going to court, he first has to appeal to the same agency that pinned the scarlet letter to his chest in the first place. Child sex predators who are actually charged with a crime have more protections.

Iowa's system is hardly among the worst. Last year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reported that many states put residents on such lists with ridiculously little evidence. In some states, "abusers" aren't told they are on the list and don't get to know whether their appeal, sometimes consisting of a single conference call, is successful or not. Producing a federal list - to track abusers who move from state to state - would be impossible, the agency said, until some "minimal due-process protections were available to the [alleged] perpetrator."  FULL STORY

Parents of 50 Million U.S. Children Soon to Lose Parental Rights

If your children attend public school, you are among those parents whose rights will end the moment your child enters the school. That’s because in 2005 the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals found in Fields v. Palmdale School District “that the Meyer-Pierce right [of parents to direct the upbringing of their children] does not exist beyond the threshold of the school door.”

You read that right. Parental Rights “[do] not exist beyond the threshold of the school door.”

“We conclude that the parents are possessed of no constitutional right to prevent the public schools from providing information on the subject [of sexuality] to their students in any forum or manner they select” (emphasis added).

Of course, most parents contend they don’t have a choice in where their children are schooled. Either economic constraints or personal circumstances leave them with no practical alternative to the local public school. And that leaves no parental rights at all.

Please act to reverse this assault by big government courts against parental rights. Sign the petition and get more information at ParentalRights.org.

Then, please pass this on. Every parent of a public school student needs to know the extent to which the courts have robbed them of their rights. Forward this email to friends, add the message to your Facebook account, or click here to visit this page online and use the “share” button to add it to virtually any other social network.

Looking Ahead

This is the first of several court cases we plan to review for you in the coming weeks. The courts’ disregard for the traditional formative role of parents in a child’s life needs to be brought to light. And while the Parental Rights Amendment will not give parents any greater power to control the school’s choice of curriculum, it will protect their right to pull their individual child out of any program of an outrageous or offensive nature, like the program in the Palmdale case. Judge denies request to unseal file on Bruce Jackson
By Barbara Boyer
Philadelphia Inquirer Staff Writer

Confidential records concerning the care of Bruce Jackson, found nearly starved to death in his adoptive Collingswood home in 2003, will remain under seal, a judge decided Monday.

"I do not see a reason to invade Mr. Jackson's privacy," Superior Court Judge Mary Eva Colalillo said in denying a request by The Inquirer to unseal Jackson's file, which could include information on his education, finances, and job training.

Colalillo said she would review medical records to determine whether an additional advocate is needed for Jackson.

Jackson, 25, has been declared incompetent and is living in Gloucester County in a group home for the developmentally disabled.

The Inquirer petitioned the court to unseal Jackson's files this month after publishing several stories in which advocates for the disabled raised concerns about the lack of transparency in Jackson's case.  FULL STORY

Mr. Gatto quit as a public school teacher in order to stop harming kids. He had discovered that institutional schooling is designed to prevent the natural genius of children from emerging. Public schools impose a state of permanent incompletion to our kids, by teaching habit-training, not intellectual development. The power elite deliberately suppresses independent and critical thinking, to make us obedient citizens and consumers. Gatto, author of the best-selling Weapons of Mass Instruction, Dumbing Us Down, and The Underground History of American Education, discusses how the twenty elite boarding schools teach their students according to ancient principles, and homeschoolers and unschoolers are doing the same.

Foster dad molestation trial to begins today
August 24, 2010, 12:34 AM
Daily Journal Staff Report

San Mateo, California- The trial of an English software designer accused of molesting a 9-year-old boy he was in the process of adopting is set to begin this morning.

Tarquin Craig Thomas, 44, previously entered pleas of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity* to multiple counts of lewd behavior with a minor.

Thomas’ trial has been postponed a dozen times since his arrest more than three years ago after prosecutors alleged he sexually and physically abused an Oregon foster child he was adopting.

Thomas is a citizen of England living in San Mateo who worked as a software designer for Barclays investment firm between September and November 2005. Thomas also had a vacation home in Oregon and arranged to have a 9-year-old boy needing foster care in that state to be placed with him in San Mateo, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Shortly after the boy arrived in San Mateo, prosecutors say Thomas began two actions — adoption proceedings and near-daily molestation. Thomas is also accused of having the boy pose nude by himself and with other adults.  FULL STORY

New Jersey Returns $2.9M to Medicaid After Planned Parenthood False Billing

Trenton, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- After a U.S. Inspector General report showed New Jersey-based family planning clinics run by the Planned Parenthood abortion business were improperly billing Medicaid for services that did not qualify as family planning, the state has returned $2.9 million to the Medicaid program.

Last week, the New Jersey Department of Human Services refunded $2.9 million in prescription drug and medical payments, the Star Ledger newspaper reported.

Marie Tasy, the director of New Jersey Right to Life, released the information about the improper billing problems at Planned Parenthood last week.

Falsely billing programs that were not qualified as family planning programs able to be reimbursed by the federal government had the state receiving $9 in reimbursement for each $1 spent on the nonqualified programs.  FULL STORY

Child abuse declines nationally in spite of economic deterioration

DURHAM, N.H. -- Child abuse declined nationally in 2008 compared to 2007, according to a new report by the Crimes against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire. Sexual abuse declined 6 percent, physical abuse 3 percent and neglect 2 percent.

The report also found that child maltreatment fatalities stayed stable from 2007 to 2008. These trends are noteworthy, according to the report's authors, because 2008 marked the first full year of the current recession, and economic downturns are generally thought to be associated with increased family stress and child maltreatment.

"This is good news, but we need to be very cautious," said lead author David Finkelhor, director of the center and professor of sociology. "It could be that discouragement and despair in families about their deteriorating economic situation take longer than a year to show their effects."

On the other hand, the report notes, the recent declines represent a continuation of a large downward trend for physical and sexual abuse that is now over 15 years in length.

"The long-improvement for sexual and physical abuse may be related to a generation-long effort to educate and respond more effectively and aggressively to the problem," Finkelhor said. "If successful prevention efforts are behind the declines, then the improvements may persist even in the face of social stressors like the recession."

The report was based on an analysis of data on substantiated child maltreatment cases submitted by state child protection agencies to the federal government.

Individual states may have trends quite different from the national trends, especially in the short run. For example, in New Hampshire, physical abuse was up 6 percent in 2008 over 2007 and neglect was up 35 percent, while sexual abuse declined 10 percent. Over the longer span, however, most states, including New Hampshire, show the nationally noted decline in physical and sexual abuse.  FULL STORY

Lab rats? Drugs for US children tried on Indians (in India)
REUTERS, Aug 24, 2010, 12.07am IST

NEW YORK: A law intended to speed up development of new drugs for US kids has ended up financing clinical trials in poor countries, where the medicines might never become available.

That's the conclusion of a new report whose authors say the situation raises ethical concerns. More than a third of the published trials performed under 1997 legislation called the Pediatric Exclusivity Provision were carried out at least partly in developing or transitioning nations, such as Uganda and India, researchers found.

"The trend that we describe brings up some scientific and ethical problems," said Dr Sara Pasquali, a pediatrician at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, whose findings appear in the journal Pediatrics.

...The idea behind the Pediatric Exclusivity Provision is to incentivize development of drugs for children in the US.

Because many diseases are rare in childhood, clinical trials usually target adults only, and their results don't automatically extend to kids. The pediatric provision grants companies an extra six months of patent life if they test their drugs in kids as well.   FULL STORY

Elections Coming: Time to Take the Child Welfare Issue to Candidates
Linda Martin @ 7:31 pm August 23, 2010
FightCPS.com

I just read the website of a woman running for office here in California. There was nothing, and I mean nothing whatsoever, to indicate her position on child welfare issues.

That’s probably the case with most candidates here in the USA. Though child welfare injustice is one of the BIGGEST and MOST IMPORTANT issues in this country, considering the suffering and injustice, few have the integrity to talk about it and try to do something to end the horror that is being inflicted on American families.

I vow today to never vote for a candidate who isn’t brave and truthful enough to stand in favor of ending child welfare injustice. Anyone who isn’t trying to help families isn’t man or woman enough to get my vote. Avoidance of this issue is simply unacceptable.

How about YOU? Are you going to vote for spineless clowns? How about all those incumbents who couldn’t be bothered to help you in your time of need?

Here’s what I wrote to the woman’s campaign team:

“I don’t see anything on _____’s website to indicate that she has any empathetic understanding of the needs of the poor and downtrodden. She certainly hasn’t been there or done that. And there’s nothing to state how she feels about the child welfare disaster. See http://www.fightcps.com — millions of families destroyed without benefit of constitutional protections, and it seems she just doesn’t care. And what about the state sovereignty movement? How does she feel about the USA’s tenth amendment being grievously violated? This is 2010, way beyond 1984. We need leaders who are aware of the real issues and willing to do something about them. Please tell me what _____ plans to do to help victims of unjust, evil, corrupt, unconstitutional child welfare laws.”

Co-workers in the child welfare protest, victims of child “protection” agencies, please take time, from now until November, to visit sites of candidates running for office in your areas, to write to them, to let them know how you feel about child welfare issues.

These people have got to wake up, and WE THE PEOPLE need to let them know that upholders of injustice are not respectable enough to get our votes.

“All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

Candidates: If you’re worthy of leadership, show us.

Are Parents Of Obese Kids Abusive?

Think twice before you give your child that candy bar or cookie -- some are saying obese kids have abusive parents.

Two extremely obese Georgia children who were removed from their home last week have some people saying their weight is a form of child abuse, but experts disagree.

ABC News reports that James and Anne Cardona of Marietta, Ga., were arrested and charged with felony child abuse after their two daughters, ages 5 and 4, were removed from their home.

Not only were their living conditions squalid, but the two girls are dangerously obese. The 5-year-old weighs 158 pounds and has trouble walking, the news station reports. The 4-year-old weighs 89 pounds -- a typical child that age should weigh about 40 pounds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, experts say having an overweight child isn't child abuse, in and of itself. "Obesity is usually part of a much bigger problem. In a child protective services capacity, it would be seen as medical neglect, and that's just part of the whole picture," Linda Spears, vice president of policy and public affairs at the Child Welfare League of America, tells ABC. "The question is what's going on with the family that's causing the situation in which you have an obese child with health consequences that are not being addressed."

She adds that as the national "epidemic" of childhood obesity continues to grow, social services departments are likely to see more and more obese kids when investigating child abuse claims.

"There's a good likelihood that you will see a larger percentage of these cases becoming part of the child welfare caseload," Spears tells ABC.

Not too long ago, the propaganda was "16 million hungry children" in America.  Looks like I need to add a new category to my Parenting in post-freedom Amerika editorial.

Child welfare workers under investigation

SAN ANTONIO -- The U.S. Department of Labor is keeping an eye on Child Protective Services investigators who are eligible for overtime compensation.

On May 28, 2010 the Department of Family and Protective Services received an administrative subpoena from federal government requiring certain CPS investigators to keep all emails, spreadsheets, databases, phone logs, and documents related to the hours worked over the past two years.

News 4 WOAI has received complaints from current CPS workers who say they are being saddled with too many cases, claiming the agency has seen a mass exodus of experienced investigators.

The U.S. Department of Labor would not go into detail about the investigation, citing it is an open case.

"DFPS employs hundreds of CPS investigators in communities across the State of Texas who perform vital work protecting vulnerable children from abuse and neglect," says CPS spokeswoman Mary Walker in a written statement. "While the mobile nature of these employees' daily routins presents various challenges, DFPS has always had policies and controls in place to ensure that investigators are properly credited with all time worked and paid overtime in compliance with the law."

Do you suppose the Department of Labor suspects these people are liars?

Man whose conviction was overturned still fighting
By BILL DRAPER, Associated Press Writer

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo.-  After Ted White Jr. was wrongfully convicted of molesting his 12-year-old stepdaughter, his parents poured everything they had into clearing their son's name.

When he won his freedom after finding out that the detective who led the sex-abuse investigation was his estranged wife's secret lover, White wanted someone to pay — to pay the legal bills and to pay for what he went through during his nearly six years behind bars.

Now, more than five years after his release, he's still waiting for the Kansas City suburb of Lee's Summit to do what it once promised- pay the multimillion-dollar court judgment against former Detective Richard McKinley.  FULL STORY

Senators line up to tell U.N. to leave kids alone
31 already committed to oppose treaty giving world body oversight of parents

By Bob Unruh © 2010 WorldNetDaily

Thirty-one Republican senators have agreed to oppose the United Nations' "Convention on the Rights of the Child" treaty, and critics of the international plan to vest children with a long list of rights – such as a right to seek government review of parental decisions – are looking for three more names.

The campaign by supporters of ParentalRights.org opposes an effort to put the U.N. advocacy plan into operation in the United States.

So far, the senators who have joined to oppose what critics have described as a usurpation of parents' rights by international bureaucrats are: Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain of Arizona, Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson of Georgia, Sens. Mike Crapo and James Risch of Idaho, Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Sens. Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts of Kansas, Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky, Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana, Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker of Mississippi, Sen. Christopher Bond of Missouri, Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska, Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, Sens. Tom Coburn and James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Sens. Jim DeMint and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, Sens. John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas, Sens. Robert Bennett and Orrin Hatch of Utah and Sens. John Barrasso and Michael Enzi of Wyoming.

The resolution states the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child should not even be presented to the Senate for a vote, which would require two-thirds approval for ratification, because it "is contrary to the principles of self-government and federalism, and ... because the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child undermines traditional principles of law in the United States regarding parents and children."  FULL STORY

FLDS girl receiving her Best Interest Civil Right

Best interest of the child-
A new "Civil Right"

October 16, 2009
Family Rights Examiner Leonard Henderson

Last year, I was cleaning up my computer desktop. One item I came across was a poignant photo of a FLDS girl alone on a bus waving goodbye to her home and the life she knew.

As I was looking at this image, it struck me that- This IS a photo of the "Best Interest of the Child".

And then it struck me- This is a NEW Civil Right

That is, the child has the "right" to have her life decisions made for her by government. HER "BEST INTEREST" CIVIL RIGHT.

...I would much rather give American children their CONSTITUTIONAL Fourth Amendment Right "to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."  FULL STORY

Laura Dekker, 14, Sets Off on Round-the-World Sail
Dutch girl is trying to become youngest person to circumnavigate the globe
By DEAN SCHABNER
Aug. 21, 2010
ABC News

A month after being released from the guardianship of child protection services, a 14-year-old Dutch girl today set sail from Gibraltar in an effort to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world.

Laura Dekker was en route to the Canary Islands on her 38-foot boat, Guppy, after saying goodbye to her father and friends earlier today. She began her trip in secrecy because, according to her manager, Peter Klarenbeek, she did not want any attention.

Klarenbeek told The Associated Press that Dekker was in good spirits, and expected her round-the-world trip to take a year or more.

The Dutch child protection agency had attempted to block Dekker from making the trip, but a court released her from their oversight last month after she switched to a larger vessel and took courses in both first aid and dealing with sleep deprivation.  FULL STORY

Obviously, the Dutch CPS would rather have enforced her Convention on the Rights of the Child "Best Interest" by kidnapping her, doping her out of her head, raped and beaten in Foster carceration.

Child Sex Suspect Charged For 4th Time In Weeks

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) --A man already facing charges in three cases of alleged sexual encounters with minors, has been charged for a fourth time.

According to police, a criminal complaint was filed on Friday against Paul David Weimer, 40, who is already in the Allegheny County Jail on previous charges.

According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the latest charges were filed after a fourth juvenile boy came forward and described incidents from March 2006 to 2009.

New charges include: involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, corruption of minors and statutory sexual assault.

In a previous case, Weimer had obtained legal guardianship over a boy and had sexual encounters with him. Police said there may be more victims because the incidents included more than one child.

Previously, State police investigators said Weimer started a sexual relationship even though he knew the male was a juvenile after he answered to a men serving men advertisement on Craigslist.

The criminal complaint says Weimer and the juvenile had numerous sexual encounters at his home in Monroeville and in public places.

I am mystified why this filth is called "sex".  It used to be called SODOMY or buggery.  As far as I know, I don't have to be "tolerant" of men doing little boys.

Jurors convict teen of murder
First-degree finding means boy, 14, to get life term with no parole.

By TOM MOOR
South Bend Tribune Staff Writer
August 20. 2010 6:59AM

Niles, Michigan- Dakotah Eliason sat motionless Thursday afternoon when a jury convicted him of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his grandfather.

Off to his side, members of his family broke into tears — some for Dakotah and others for 69-year-old Jesse Miles, whom Dakotah killed March 7.

The case has created a rift in the families of both Dakotah and Miles.

The ruling by the jury of 10 women and two men means Dakotah, a former Niles High School student, will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. The jury also found the boy guilty of felony firearm.

...Father sees injustice

Steven Eliason, who left the courtroom after the verdict was read, vowed to keep fighting for his son. He called the conviction an injustice considering Dakotah's age and the fact he will never have a chance to be rehabilitated and become a useful member of society again. Which he never was to begin with?

"He's barely lived his life and now you're saying he's not afforded the opportunity to ever live his life as a free man again," he said. (Society has always been pretty sure that if you murder, you don't get to be a "free man")

"What does this say about our country that a 14-year-old can go to jail without parole? It blows my mind. They ran (this case) through the wringer to make an example." Well yeah, MURDERING people is not really acceptable.

Berrien County Prosecutor Art Cotter said, "Nobody wins with this verdict. It's not easy to convince a jury a 14-year-old committed first-degree murder. It wasn't easy to bring that charge against him, but that's what the facts showed."

Fisher said Cotter took his time with his decision to charge Dakotah as an adult, and understands he made a "tough decision in this case."  FULL STORY

Hooper woman sent to prison for sexual relationship with foster son
Published: Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 4:37 p.m. MDT
Deseret News

OGDEN, Utah- A Hooper woman was sentenced to prison Wednesday for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy who was living in her care as a foster child.

Jennifer Ann Montag, 41, was sentenced to two terms of one to 15 years in prison by 2nd District Judge Ernie Jones for two counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. The judge ordered the sentences to run concurrently, prosecutor L. Dean Saunders said. He said no restitution was ordered in the case because the woman's victim has yet to go to counseling* and hasn't incurred any costs.

Saunders said he felt the sentence was fair, considering the "long-term impact" the relationship had on the woman's victim.

"I think that was the appropriate sentence for the charges she had," he said. "She refused to accept responsibility and denied she did anything wrong."

The relationship was discovered after the woman was caught by a family member in her bedroom with her 14-year-old foster son, who was naked, court records state. Montag then confronted the family member after being discovered, court records state, telling him, "You will ruin our family. I could go to jail, and if I do, I will kill myself."

Montag's husband told police the couple became foster parents about four months before the relationship was discovered. He said he had previously called the family's caseworker and asked about having the victim removed from the home.

Montag pleaded guilty to the two counts in June.

Plotting ex-wife gets 7-14 years in jail
By JAMES A. KIMBLE
Union Leader Correspondent
August 19, 2010

BRENTWOOD – Kristin Ruggiero will spend 7 to 14 years in state prison for what police say was part of a years-long ploy to use the criminal justice system against her ex-husband, who was thrown in jail and nearly lost his career during a bitter divorce.
Ruggiero's folly came because claims in criminal court had to be backed up -- unlike in family court where she made repeated claims about ex-husband's behavior.

"Unfortunately for her, we're not in family court anymore,"
Judge Kenneth McHugh said Ruggiero's attempt to set up her ex-husband and use the legal system as a weapon was unlike any other case he has seen.

"There's a lot of people, usually women, who have been subjected to abuse by their significant others," McHugh said, during Ruggiero's sentencing yesterday. "As a result of her actions, their cases, their safety, their security has been damaged. The web for this is much greater than what has just happened to Mr. Ruggiero."

A jury found that Kristin Ruggiero registered a disposable cell phone under her ex-husband's name and sent herself a dozen threatening and suicidal text messages. She then reported to East Kingston police in May 2008 that her ex-husband had violated bail conditions tied to a criminal threatening case, which police learned was also fabricated by the 34-year-old mother.

By portraying herself as a victim, she duped local police and portrayed her ex-husband, Jeffrey Ruggiero, as a violent monster while the couple was going through a contentious divorce in family court, according to prosecutors.

The couple battled over finances and their 7-year-old daughter.

While Jeffrey Ruggiero was being investigated, his ex-wife called him at all hours and taunted him over the phone, according to court testimony.

"She mocked him. She laughed at him. (She said) 'I took all your money, I took your daughter and now I am going to take your career'," Assistant County Attorney Jerome Blanchard said in court yesterday.

...He said Ruggiero's folly came because claims in criminal court had to be backed up -- unlike in family court where she made repeated claims about ex-husband's behavior.

"Unfortunately for her, we're not in family court anymore," Blanchard said.

Blanchard argued that Ruggiero continued to try to manipulate the justice system, even after her conviction in May from her jail cell.

In a series of recorded phone calls from the jail played in court, Ruggiero asked her mother to get a letter from a doctor, which would claim that Ruggiero suffered a form of psychosis stemming from addiction to Adderall and alcohol.

"I'm going to pull the mental health card, you know what I mean?" Ruggiero says during the call, which was played in court. "It has to be outpatient in the United States and I can live at home."

...Before her arrest in September 2008, Ruggiero nearly had the criminal justice and family court system fooled, according to prosecutors. A district court judge convicted Jeffrey Ruggiero of misdemeanor criminal threatening and related charges, but refused to jail him before sentencing.

That allowed Jeffrey Ruggiero to remain free on bail and return to his job as a petty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard.

It enraged Kristin Ruggiero so much that she came up with the scheme about receiving a series of threatening and suicidal text messages. Ruggiero was sentenced on 12 counts of falsifying physical evidence, which each carry a potential 3 1/2 to 7-year prison term.

The case that McHugh repeatedly described as "bizarre" yesterday may not be over.

Prosecutors revealed during Ruggiero's sentencing hearing that a new criminal investigation related to her is under way.

Ruggiero was also ordered to pay $19,000 in restitution to the East Kingston police department, which conducted the investigation. FULL STORY

Nothing "bizarre" about this case.  It's actually about NORMAL.  I am not even gonna start on what my ex-wife did to me.

I-Team: List of Abuses Hammers Department of Family Services

LAS VEGAS -- Police and prosecutors who investigate child abuse accuse the Clark County Department of Family Services of failing children.

Two lists compiled by law enforcement detail specific examples of the agency's alleged shortcomings. The county pledged to review them and to make its results public. Yet nearly two months later, no word on how or when that will happen.

The good news is some 50 employees with the DFS started training with Las Vegas police. A second training session on investigations is scheduled for next week.

But the county refuses to reveal any specific details about its review of more than 100 abuse and neglect cases identified as failures by law enforcement. Children who police and prosecutors insist were not protected by the system.

The list compiled by Metro includes some 50 cases compiled by its bureau of Crimes Against Children and Families. Examples that detail a pattern of reluctance on the part of CPS investigators to respond to reports of abuse and to remove at risk children.  FULL STORY

Woman: DHS Impostors Tried To Take Daughter
Police Investigate Alfalfa County Incident

POSTED: 10:12 pm CDT August 18, 2010
UPDATED: 11:58 pm CDT August 18, 2010

ALINE, Okla. -- An Oklahoma mother said that two women posed as workers with the Department of Human Services and tried to kidnap her 2-year-old daughter.

The woman, who lives in Aline, Okla., but asked that her identity remain secret, said that what happened to her on Tuesday seemed real, but she didn't fall for it.

She said the women told her they were investigating a child abuse complaint and that they had a court order to take custody of the girl.

"I was hysterical," she said. "I thought they were going to take my kids because I thought it was the Department of Human Services."

She said the women told them she was in trouble because of bruising seen on one of her other children.

"They said they had allegations that one of my children had been abused and there were some other allegations and they needed to come inside," she said.

She said she didn't let them in, but the women knocked again a few minutes later. She said they told her they had a court order and one of the women tried to grab her daughter.

"She tried taking off with her and got off the porch," she said. "When I got to her, I basically slapped her in the face and pulled my daughter out of her hands. I went to the door and told them they need to come back with the police."

She said the women got into a car and drove away.  FULL STORY

What makes this story alarming is- there is not one bit of difference in behavior of the impostors and the "real" DHS kidnappers.

The only difference is, had the 2 women been DHS agents, the mother would now be in the crossbar hotel for slapping the bogus "agent".

I am impressed with this mother for resisting. Few people will fight these monsters.

This is exactly what happened in the Rylia Wilson case in Florida years ago.

Social workers say cops beat them, failed to follow protocol on child removal that lead to violence

BY Simone Weichselbaum
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Sunday, August 15th 2010, 4:00 AM

It was supposed to be a routine assignment.

A pair of city social workers sent to remove two children from an abusive Bronx home thought they could count on the two NYPD cops by their side in case things got ugly.

Instead, the officers bungled the case so badly, the social workers say, they ended up in the middle of a melee that left them beaten and bloodied - by the cops.

"I don't feel safe anymore," said Administration for Children's Services staffer Virginia Thomas as tears streamed down her face during an interview with The News.

Thomas, 30, and Virginia Vaca, 37, said they are too traumatized to return to work.

"If I see a police officer, I will go the other way. I lost faith in the NYPD," Thomas said.

On June 30, the pair decided they needed to remove two girls, a 4-year-old and a 9-month-old, from a drug-abusing mom and violent dad. Following normal procedure, they called for backup from the 41st Precinct.

Vaca said as soon as she spotted the two responding officers at the Hunts Point building, she sensed trouble.

There was no supervisor, a violation of the police patrol guide.

Then, the cops told the women to knock on the apartment door instead of making sure the home was safe for ACS workers to enter, said Gary Maitland, a lawyer for their union, Local 371.

Once inside the apartment, Vaca said officers argued with the children's mother for 20 minutes - and then let her call the girls' volatile father.

Tensions exploded. The cops could not restrain the dad and called for backup.

Nearly a dozen uniformed men busted through the front door - knocking the two ACS workers to the floor.

"We kept trying to get up, and they are pushing us back down," Thomas said.

Vaca said she "kept trying to tell them we were ACS."

One cop replied, "I don't give a f--- who you are," Vaca recalled.

Officers then dragged the women by their hair and arms out into the hallway, the workers said.  Read more

Especially see the comments on that story.  The nasty ACS pukes have lots of enemies.  Perhaps the cops have had a royal can-full of them too.

Is it willful ignorance? A lack of education? Or some sort of untouchable mysticism that surrounds that which we all share and though rarely speak of?

I'm talking about childbirth and the endless misunderstandings and misinformation that go along with birth -- especially in this culture. From what women experience emotionally and physiologically during labor to what women's legal and ethical rights look like during the same period, the impact of not only our ignorance about birth but our desire to control what we don't know or don't understand, serves no one.

Case in point:

The National Association for Pregnant Women (NAPW) recently acknowledged a victory in which they played a part related to a woman who had given birth three years ago and had her newborn swiftly whisked away by a child protective authority claiming child endangerment for refusing to "pre-authorize" a cesarean section.

The victory came in the form of a court decision last week reversing a lower court's decision to terminate the mother's parental rights (Ms. M aka V.M.) and remove the baby from her custody at birth, because she didn't consent to a C-section, even though it was never medically necessary.

...This occurred in a New Jersey hospital that has a 50 percent C-section rate. The hospital policy is that whenever a maternity patient comes in the door, they immediately are asked to pre-authorize any intervention. It's standard practice and it's not uncommon.  FULL STORY

Maybe under Obamacare, it will be 100% caesarians.  And then the baby will be whisked away by CPS due to "the mother's inability to care for the infant".

Colo. man pleads guilty in Haiti sex abuse case
By John Christoffersen, Associated Press Writer – August 18, 2010

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A Colorado man who founded a school for street children in Haiti acknowledged Wednesday that he sexually abused several, wrapping up a case in which prosecutors said he manipulated the boys with promises of food and shelter and threatened to expel them if they refused.

Douglas Perlitz, 40, pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in New Haven, Conn., to travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, a charge that carries up to 30 years in prison. As part of a plea deal, he admitted to engaging in illicit sexual conduct with eight children. BOYS

Perlitz is a former Connecticut resident who now lives in Eagle, Colo. He was charged last year with enticing boys at the Project Pierre Toussaint School in Cap-Haitien into sex acts. Prosecutors say Perlitz, 40, withheld benefits and threatened to expel the boys if they spurned him.

"This defendant preyed on impoverished and powerless street children in Haiti, enticing them with significant benefits such as food, shelter, clothing and education, only to exploit his position of trust and sexually abuse the boys under his care," said U.S. Attorney David Fein.  FULL STORY

Former Alabama prosecutor arrested on enticement, child porn charges

August 18, 2010 8:44 a.m. EDT

(CNN) -- A former Alabama assistant district attorney who specialized in prosecuting sex crimes against minors is accused of enticing what he thought was a teenage girl online for sexual purposes, authorities said.

Steven Giardini was indicted on charges of enticement and solicitation crimes over the computer with the intent to produce child pornography, the Alabama Attorney General's Office said in a statement. Giardini, a former prosecutor in Mobile County, was arrested Tuesday.

The charges stem from the suspect's alleged communication with what he thought was a 15-year-girl, Alabama Attorney General Troy King said in a statement Tuesday.

But instead he was communicating with an agent from the FBI's Internet Crimes Against Children division. (snicker)  FULL STORY

Former Foster Kids Struggle to Get Records

by Emily Ramshaw
August 6, 2010
The Texas Tribune

For years, Leigh Ecke repressed her childhood — the physical abuse from her “small-time cult leader father” and the subsequent decade she spent in Texas foster care. But when she became pregnant with her second child, Ecke decided it was time to dig up her past. She made what she thought was a routine request to the Department of Family and Protective Services, asking for her paper record.

Three years and several follow-up calls and letters later, the state had given her nothing. It took an attorney and a hand-delivered request to the agency’s head of records to get a single disk filled with mostly illegibly scanned files.

“It’s a betrayal. I was a kid in their system, a part of their family, and for three years they gave me the finger,” says Ecke, a 38-year-old social worker who lives with her husband and kids in Colorado. “I don’t have a family to keep records for me, to share information about my life. It’s so paternalistic, like I’m not competent to have my own records.”

Ecke’s experience is only unusual because of how persistent she was. Child welfare advocates say young adults who age out of foster care are routinely denied their records: The state either ignores their requests, tells them they can’t be found or says compiling the paperwork will take anywhere from months to years. (and cost thousand$ of dollar$) Mary Christine Reed, an Austin-based attorney with Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid who has made it her mission to break through this red tape, says she has only ever heard of one former foster child accessing her records without a lawyer — and that’s because she got assistance from a lawmaker.

“I’ve been amazed at the complete lack of response, even with [former foster kids] who are organized, experienced. It just goes into a black hole,” she says. “If they don’t have a lawyer, there’s little likelihood they will ever get their records

Child of shrinks recalls his childhood in memoir
Reuters
By Zachary Goelman Zachary Goelman – August 18, 2010

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) – Micah Toub's parents were both psychologists and his childhood had more than a few experiences normally reserved for the analyst's chair, leaving him to wonder if he was psychologically scarred.

Toub, a Toronto Globe and Mail columnist, recounts his parents' particular approach to his upbringing in his new memoir "Growing Up Jung."

"When I'm talking with people, and it comes out that my parents are both psychologists, they'll usually say something like, 'but you're so well adjusted!'" Toub, 33, told Reuters in a telephone interview from Toronto.

As a child, Toub endured his parents' penchant for dream analysis, a field of therapy pioneered by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, around the breakfast table.

....He insists the book is a collection of highlights, moments when his parents' professions intersected with their parenting.

"The idea is basically, parents are always going to mess you up -- that's their job." FULL STORY

Dear Supporter of Parental Rights,

Last week, I asked for your participation in building our network of parental rights supporters so that we can make a push to pass the Parental Rights Amendment in the next Congress. If you meant to pass on last week’s information, but forgot to do it, it is not too late. We really need your help.

But, it is very obvious that a great number of you did participate with great success because we had our all time record for new petition signers in one week. Over 10,000 new people signed up to support the parental rights cause because of your efforts last week.

And like we promised last week, we are going to continue to supply you with good information that you can use to help promote our mutual cause within your circle of influence.

Shocking U.N. Efforts to Undermine Youth Morals

During the last week, a well-respected leader in the pro-family movement, Terrence McKeegan, Vice President and Senior Counsel for C-FAM, shared with me his research about the UN’s latest efforts to attack the moral foundation of families and children. In the last week a major youth conference was held in Mexico which was aimed at creating a new declaration for youth to be enacted by the UN General Assembly in connection with the International Year for Youth.

One of the things called for in the proposed resolution is full access for all youth to “universal access to reproductive health.” These words are loaded with hidden meanings. However, McKeegan has unmasked these hidden meanings by gathering copies of UN brochures that it distributed at its youth conference in March, 2010. Click here to look at the actual sections from these brochures. The content of this material is shocking. It is not pornographic, but the behavior that it is encouraging is lewdness and immorality personified. I would strongly suggest that only parents look at this material. Here are just a few examples:

  • Young people living with HIV have the right to sexual pleasure
  • Some people have sex when they have been drinking alcohol or using drugs. This is your choice.
  • There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself.
  • Sexual and reproductive rights are recognized around the world as human rights.

Now you know the kinds of ideas that are offered when the UN calls for “safe sex education and awareness-raising activities among adolescents” (UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, 2006, Concluding Observations, Lebanon).

There is already a political movement in the United States to offer these egregious forms of sex education without parental knowledge or review. But, if the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is adopted in the US, then the debate is over—we would be required to implement the kind of adolescent “health” education dictated by the UN.

We must preserve our families. We must preserve common sense and morality. We must preserve American self-government.

If you have already joined our efforts to stop the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child thanks so much. Would you continue to share this information with your friends as we build toward the next session of Congress? If you have not joined with us, Click here and do so today.

Thanks so much.

The Hidden Truth: Why Government Wants Your Kids on Cholesterol Drugs
Posted By Dr. Mercola | August 18 2010

If Pfizer has its way, your child's gummy bears may be replaced with chewable Lipitor

The exploitation of children for the sake of profit is yet another loathsome strategy drug manufacturers are willing to deploy, this time for the purpose of extending Lipitor's patent to hold off generic brand competition.

We are already drugging children into complacency with psychotropic stimulants such as Ritalin if they are bored or distracted in the classroom, and devastating their developing immune systems with massive amounts of sugary drinks and a growing barrage of mercury-laden vaccines.

The following trends are quite disturbing:

  • According to one study, American children take antipsychotic medications at six times the rate of U.K. children.
  • One in four American kids takes a prescription drug for a chronic health condition.
One in five teens has high cholesterol.
  • Heartburn and acid reflux medications among adolescents has jumped 147 percent since 2001.
  • Girls aged 10 to 19 taking medications for type 2 diabetes has jumped almost 200 percent in the past nine years.
  • Children and adolescents make up the leading growth category for the pharmaceutical industry, with increases nearly four times higher than those seen in the rest of the population.

"No Child Left Unscreened"

Pumping statins into your children, like we are already doing with psychiatric drugs, would be disastrous, as the damaging side effects are now well established.

And if the government gets involved in mandating cholesterol screenings, it then becomes a slippery slope toward YOUR loss of parental choice about YOUR child's medical care. Often the government passes off recommendations as "medical decisions" but they are really "monetary decisions."

You should be the person in charge of your child's health -- not some government agency with a competing agenda!  FULL STORY

Amphetamines could damage heart artery: U.S. study
Reuters
Tue Aug 17, 2:37 pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Young adults who abuse amphetamines may be more likely to suffer an often fatal tear in the body's main artery, the aorta, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday.

A study of medical records from 31 million people aged 18 to 49 and hospitalized from 1995 to 2007 found that those who had abused amphetamines had triple the odds of aortic dissection, the team at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center said.

Amphetamines, often called speed or crank, are widely abused but also legitimately used to treat attention deficit disorder, narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. They can also aid in weight loss.

The drugs make the heart beat harder and can raise blood pressure. Researchers have previously found they could raise the risk of heart attack and some had suspected that abusing the drugs could also cause aortal tears.

Writing in the American Heart Journal, Dr. Arthur Westover and his colleagues at UTSW said they also examined medical records for more than 49 million people over 50 from the same period.

"We found that the frequency of aortic dissection is increasing in young adults but not older adults," Westover said in a statement. "It is not yet clear why."

"Doctors should screen young adults with aortic dissection for amphetamine abuse in searching for a potential cause."

Records from patients in California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington state showed three times as many cases of aortic dissection linked to amphetamine abuse among young adults. These states also have higher than average rates of amphetamine abuse, Westover said.

"This illustrates that in areas where amphetamine abuse is more common, there are greater public health consequences," he said.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, amphetamine and methamphetamine abuse is worsening in the United States.

In 1992 about 21,000 people were admitted to hospitals for treatment of amphetamine and methamphetamine abuse, representing 1 percent of all treatment admissions during the year. By 2004, this figure had risen to 150,000, representing 8 percent of all admissions.

PA Family Support Alliance Trained More Than 7,500 'Mandated Reporters' to Recognize and Report Child Abuse in 2009-2010
PR Newswire
Tue Aug 17, 10:07 am ET

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The nonprofit Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance (PFSA), the top organization in Pennsylvania for training "mandated reporters" to recognize and report child abuse and neglect, provided training to 7,540 individuals during its recently ended 2009-2010 program year.

"We train more mandated reporters by far than any other agency in the Commonwealth, and we're constantly striving to expand the audience for our training because the mission is so vital," said PFSA Executive Director Angela M. Liddle.

Mandated reporters are people who by the nature of their jobs are around children on a regular basis, such as teachers, social workers, doctors, and others. They are legally bound to make a report to authorities if they suspect abuse or neglect.

Liddle pointed out that 25,342 cases of suspected child abuse were reported in Pennsylvania in 2009, of which 15.5 percent were substantiated, resulting in the deaths of 43 children and a total of 4,966 injuries.

"The more we're able to expand the ranks of mandated reporters whose skills are upgraded through training, the bigger dent we're able to make in this problem*," she said.  FULL STORY

HUD to provide rental vouchers to families in need

WASHINGTON- Across the U.S., thousands of children live in foster care or are at risk of being placed with other families simply because their parents cannot afford a home. Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced $20 million in funding to local housing authorities to help more than 2,500 families stay together. It’s estimated that the rental vouchers awarded today will reunite nearly 5,000 children with their parents or prevent them from entering foster care in the first place.

“The foster care system is an important safety net for children when there’s no alternative, but not having the means to obtain affordable housing is hardly a good reason for families to be divided,” said U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan. “Thankfully these vouchers will keep thousands of families together under one roof.”

HUD’s Family Unification Program (FUP) will make 2,543 Housing Choice Vouchers available for families whose inadequate housing is the primary cause of their separation or near separation from their children. In addition, 20 percent of these vouchers will provide stable housing for approximately 750 young adults (ages 18-22) who are aging out of the foster care system, preventing them from becoming homelessness.  FULL STORY

No more welfare state: Abbott
August 17, 2010 - 1:19PM
AAP

Australia- Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says new bonuses for job seekers are part of his big vision to turn Australia from "welfare state to opportunity society".

Mr Abbott has outlined plans to introduce hefty cash bonuses for those on welfare and aged under 30 if they get - and keep - a job.

They would be eligible for up to $4000 if they stayed off welfare for 24 months, plus more funding if they relocated for work.
Advertisement: Story continues below

"This is part of my big ambition for our country," Mr Abbott said during his address to the National Press Club on Tuesday.

"My ambition is for us to make the journey from welfare state to opportunity society."

The welfare system was crucial in providing a safety net, but it was also important to eliminate "the cancer of passive welfare which has caused intergenerational welfare to become a tragic way of life," he said.

Meanwhile in the US, the cancer of socialism continues to metastasize and destroy opportunity.  Seems like we also have a tragic explosion of intergenerational elitism.

LA County orders probe into child death media leaks
The Associated Press
Posted: 08/16/2010 09:03:13 AM PDT
Updated: 08/16/2010 09:03:59 AM PDT

Los Angeles County is investigating leaks to the news media about child death and neglect cases under jurisdiction of its troubled children and family services agency.

Chief Executive William Fujioka will ask the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday to require cooperation from all departments. The decision to investigate the leaks was reportedly made during closed session.

The series of child deaths led the county to earlier order an audit of the Department of Children and Family Services. The probe will examine technology failures, management accountability and cooperation with other county agencies.

The deaths include the June suicide of an 11-year-old boy. County investigators checking on the boy's suicide threat didn't learn about an abusive stepfather until after the boy hanged himself.

Every time the malfeasant CPS boobs are called to task for their failure to prevent crimes, I refer people to go rent a copy of that old video "Minority Report".  Government boobs- especially the utterly insane CPS boobs- CANNOT prevent crimes, no matter how much fascist power you give them.

"...There is this unwritten assumption that, given any problem or bad news of any kind, that government politicians and bureaucrats know what's best for all of us; that anyone who works for the government is, by definition, smarter, wiser, and has more honesty and integrity. And so, every time something bad happens, they all respond with that all-too-predictable knee-jerk response that, by golly, the government needs to DO SOMETHING about it! And inevitably, the government DOES indeed do something: it gets bigger and more powerful, and spends more money." -David M. Woods

Foster parents accused of endangering a minor
Central Kentucky News-Journal

Two Campbellsville residents have been accused of endangering their foster child after the child allegedly nearly drowned at Green River Lake.

Everette Allen, 53, and Peggy C. Allen, 49, of 1191 Social Band Road were cited Friday, Aug. 6 at 7:14 p.m.

According to the Allens' court summonses, the two allegedly failed to supervise a foster child who nearly drowned.

Court records allege that the Allens were not supervising children who were swimming at the lake on July 17.

Park Ranger Stephen Martin investigated.

The Allens were charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, which is a misdemeanor. They are scheduled to be arraigned in Taylor District Court on Monday, Aug. 23.

Anybody thinking about fostering would be wise to know that the system will cost you your savings, home, everything you own, and possibly put you in prison- for ANY reason.  Just like they do to real parents.  Also note that stories of kidnappings from real parents never use the word "alleged".

More Ohioans On Welfare Are Signing Up To Vote
By Associated Press
Published: August 15, 2010

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- More than 100,000 Ohioans signed up to vote through welfare programs from January to June in part of an effort to get more poor people involved in elections.

The Election Assistance Commission says the number of people who registered to vote with public-assistance programs nearly doubles the annual average in 2007 and 2008.

The increase in low-income voters comes after a new set of rules went into effect in January. The rules make sure Ohio follows a federal law that says voter registration information has to be provided to people applying for welfare programs.

Since Congress passed the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, states like Ohio focused more on tying voter registration to driver's license applications than to public assistance programs.

I have heard . . . that people may become dependent on us for food. I know that was not supposed to be good news. To me that was good news, because before people can do anything they have got to eat. And if you are looking for a way to get people to lean on you and to be dependent on you, in terms of their cooperation with you, it seems to me that food dependence would be terrific." -Sen. Court reverses conviction in Gallup child's death
Posted at: 08/13/2010 8:11 AM
By: The Associated Press

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The state Supreme Court has overturned the child abuse conviction of a Gallup woman for the death of an 18-month foster child who was in her care.

Cleo Juan had been sentenced to life in prison - at least 30 years before becoming eligible for parole - for the 2006 death of Colby Shirley.

The infant died of head injuries.

The Supreme Court sent the case back for a new trial.

The justices ruled Monday that a district court judge wrongly failed to answer a question from jurors during deliberations on whether they had the option of not reaching a verdict if deadlocked.

The justices said the jury was "coerced" into reaching a verdict by the judge's failure to provide additional instructions.

Seems like the "fix" is always in for the systemites, doesn't it?

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Pa. -- A former fugitive from Puerto Rico has been given the maximum sentence for sexually assaulting a young teen.

A judge sentenced Jose Huertas-Aponte to up to 24 years in prison.

In May Aponte pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy at Aponte's home and other locations for an eight-month period starting in November 2007.

At the time Aponte was employed by Northampton County as a county social worker in the county's Children, Youth and Families Division.

He's now awaiting extradition to Puerto Rico, where authorities say he sexually assaulted a boy back in 2003.

Mike Farris: Stop Big Government

Through activist courts and the threat of ratifying the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), big government intrudes on families more and more. Already, the liberty of parents to direct the upbringing of their children has greatly eroded in federal courts and in such settings as public schools, local libraries, and your doctor’s office.

The traditional right of parents to make decisions for their children (absent abuse or neglect) is now "substantially diminished" at the federal level, and its demise is trickling down to the states. Only an amendment to add this liberty to the text of the U.S. Constitution can give back to our families the legal protections they deserve.

Please take action. Click here to stop big government’s takeover of the family by supporting Senate Resolution 519 (which opposes ratifying the CRC) and the Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Donate NowDear Friend of Adoption,

At NCFA, we believe a nurturing, permanent family is every child’s birthright, yet there are those who actually oppose adoption and attack NCFA for our strong advocacy. In fact, the anti-adoption community is working overtime to counter our mission to promote a positive culture of adoption.  Would that be us?  We would like to see you put in prison.

This opposition demonstrates our success as the nation’s authoritative voice for adoption. We have seen passage of several NCFA-supported initiatives on Capitol Hill, enjoyed our most successful National Adoption Conference ever, had a wonderful night out with 500 children waiting to be adopted and their foster parents with Kids at Heart at Nationals Park, appeared on CNN, and contributed to stories in Time magazine, The New York Times, and the Associated Press.  So if your communist kidnapping efforts are so successful, why the whining for more money?

What can you do to stop this negativity and anti-adoption efforts?

You can make an urgent online, tax-deductible gift right now of $50, $75, or $100 to ensure that adoption remains strong.  We need your immediate financial support so that we can continue our important advocacy on behalf of children, birthparents, and adoptive families all around the world.  Please, visit our website and make an urgent online, tax-deductible gift of $50, $75, or $100 and support our efforts to promote a positive culture of adoption.

You can also show your support for NCFA and adoption by joining our official Facebook Page by clicking here.  Then, suggest our page to your Facebook friends.  We want our page to be a positive place where birthparents, prospective adoptive parents, and adopted persons can share their experiences about adoption and help raise awareness for the positive option of adoption for women facing an unplanned pregnancy.  That's not what you are really about, is it? Together, we will keep adoption strong, and we will not allow the anti-adoption minority to negatively influence policy and practice.  Or maybe sanity will return and your agency will join the ash heap of history.

Will you please make an urgent online, tax-deductible gift right now of $50, $100, or $250 to ensure that adoption remains a positive option for women facing an unplanned pregnancy? Or help continue kidnapping kids from their families?

With sincere thanks for your support,

SMITHFIELD, N.C. - A North Carolina woman charged with abuse in the death of her 4-year-old daughter is going to court.

Multiple media outlets reported that Helen Reyes of Raleigh is scheduled for a court hearing on Thursday in Johnston County. She's charged with neglient child abuse in the death of her daughter, Teghan Skiba.

Teghan died July 19 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Authorities say she had suffered cuts, bite marks, head trauma and sexual assault injuries.

Jonathan Douglas Richardson of Smithfield is charged with murder in Teghan's death. Teghan had been living with her mother and the 21-year-old Richardson in a barn behind the home of Richardson's grandparents.

Authorities say Reyes left her daughter in Richardson's care while she went to military training in New Mexico even though she knew of earlier abuse.

Two Arrested In Child Abuse Probe

California- Two Orcutt residents were arrested recently after deputies with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant at two homes in connection to a child abuse investigation.

71-year-old Bertha Mae Savoy and her nephew, Duane Patrick James were arrested in late June, and are accused of abusing foster children over a four year period.

Investigators say the two would force some of the children to sleep outside on concrete, denied food and water and may even have been beaten with plastic hangers.

James is also accused of threatening to kill the children if they did not behave Savoy.

Authorities say they have identified a total of 9 children, who may have been victims of the abuse.

Savoy and James are both facing felony charges of child abuse and several misdemeanors.

Illinois Medicaid Fraud Case Using
PsychRights' Model Complaint Unsealed

The Law Project for Psychiatric Rights (PsychRights®) announces the unsealing of the first Medicaid Fraud case for prescribing psychiatric drugs to children and youth by someone other than PsychRights using PsychRights' model Qui Tam Complaint.

United States ex rel Linda Nicholson v. Lilian Spigelman, M.D., Hephzibah Children's Association, and Sears Pharmacy, was filed in Illinois by attorney S. Randolph Kretchmar as a result of PsychRights' Medicaid Fraud Initiative Against Psychiatric Drugging of Children & Youth.

Ms. Nicholson's daughter was given psychiatric drugs that were not for a "medically accepted indication," constituting Medicaid Fraud.

"The evidence is overwhelming that these drugs prescribed to children and youth are ineffective, even counterproductive, and extremely harmful to children", said PsychRights' president, Jim Gottstein.

Mr. Kretchmar, the attorney handling the case said, "People need to wake up to the huge amount of harm these prescribing practices are inflicting on our children. I am very pleased to follow the lead of PsychRights in addressing this problem and hope through this lawsuit we can help bring the practice to a halt."

Jim Gottstein continued, "People should expect more of these cases until this pervasive type of Medicaid Fraud stops.  The Nicholson case is the first of such cases brought by someone other than PsychRights.”

The lawsuit is brought under the federal False Claims Act, which authorizes private parties to bring fraud actions on behalf of the United States Government and share in the recovery, if any.

A producer for 60 Minutes is looking into doing a story about families who have lost children to foster care because of the recession.

She is looking for a direct cause-and-effect relationship, such as a family that became homeless or lacks adequate housing because of job loss or foreclosure and, as a result, either had CPS take away the children or the parents felt they had no choice but to surrender them "voluntarily."

Anybody who knows about such a specific case, let Leonard know about it.

Teens and DXM Drug Abuse

If you’re raising a teenager and you don’t know much about DXM or cough medicine abuse, you’re hardly alone. DXM, or dextromethorphan, is a common ingredient in cough and combination cold medicines. Teens, however, have found another use for cough medicine -- getting high. Taking huge doses of cough medicine to get high may sound revolting. In fact, you might assume it’s just an obscure fringe thing.

But it’s not. A 2008 study found that one in 10 American teenagers has abused products with DXM to get high, making it more popular in that age group than cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, and meth. Although DXM products are quite safe when taken as recommended, high doses can cause hallucinogenic trips -- and pose serious risks.

DXM is in almost half of all of the OTC drugs sold in the U.S. For teens experimenting with drugs, DXM is cheap, easy to get, and legal.

Surprised? Many parents are.  FULL STORY

Parasites ‘Earn’ Twice as Much
Posted by Lew Rockwell on August 11, 2010 08:11 AM

The typical federal tax eater earned twice as much as the typical tax slave in 2009, with the gap getting worse. I would say: for half the work, but it is not even that. As I was reminded recently, in a discussion with a young person with relatives in the central government, almost nobody works there. Her boyfriend calls and says, from  a huge bureaucracy, “It’s 3:00pm on a Thursday afternoon, and I’m the only one here!”

And inevitably, the government DOES indeed do something: it gets bigger and more powerful, and spends more money."  -Big Government by David M. Two nonprofits compete to manage child-welfare system in Orange, Osceola

August 10, 2010|By Kate Santich, Orlando Sentinel

Florida- The competition for a $215 million contract to manage Orange and Osceola counties' child-welfare system — including adoptions, foster care and child abuse and neglect cases — has come down to a two-agency battle, officials announced Tuesday.

The contract, with the Florida Department of Children and Families, has the futures of thousands of families at stake. Although DCF could have announced an outright winner Tuesday, Central Florida regional director John Cooper instead said the state would negotiate with the two finalists to see which can provide better services.

"It's a difficult decision," Cooper said. "This could impact families in this community for the next 10 years."  FULL STORY

Fighting child sex abuse is focus of new Texas campaign
Officials hope One With Courage effort will encourage adults and children to report abuse of children.

One in four girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they reach their 18th birthday, but only 1 in 10 will tell, according to the Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas.

Officials with the Children's Advocacy Centers, an umbrella group comprising private local nonprofit organizations that work to combat child abuse, have joined with county and state officials on a statewide One With Courage campaign . The campaign is designed to encourage the reporting of abuse.

The group and its 64 local chapters secured about $380,000 from the Texas attorney general's office for the campaign. Television and radio spots began airing Tuesday.

"We have worked for a long time to get the processes right," Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg said at the launch of the campaign Tuesday afternoon. "But it's not just the professionals. It's everyone's job to prevent child sexual abuse."

In 2009, Child Advocacy Centers statewide served 40,000 children, but officials said they think the actual number of children who are sexually abused is much higher.

"The whole issue is taboo. It's a secret crime, and it easily avoids detection," Lehmberg said. "The next step is to get the public more aware and involved."

The initiative also includes Internet ads, billboards and a website, www.onewithcourage.org, which provides information on how to recognize signs of sexual abuse and report it.

"The heartbreak won't end until we all work together," Austin police Cmdr. Julie O'Brien said.

We could only wish for the TRUTH to be told about what REALLY happens to kids after they are UNCONSTITUTIONALLY kidnapped from their homes, their families DESTROYED by character assassination and Legal Abuse, often for utterly false allegations.

Latest Federal Abuse Statistics Indicate Bias
by Rich Daly, Register Correspondent 08/10/2010

WASHINGTON — The latest federal data indicate child-protection agencies nationwide continue to target Christian families, according to Christian legal experts and advocates for reforming aggressive child-welfare agencies.

The Fourth National Incidence Study of Child Abuse and Neglect (NIS-4), released earlier this year, indicated a dramatic nationwide drop in the incidence of suspected child abuse and neglect. The report, mandated by Congress and issued once a decade by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) in the Department of Health and Human Services, is considered the gold standard in estimating abuse and neglect rates nationwide and providing a point of comparison from previous years.

The study, which is based on reports between 2005 and 2006 from more than 10,000 “sentinels” who are connected in various ways to child protection, found that the estimated rate of all forms of maltreatment is down 26% since the last study in the mid-1990s. Drops included a 47% decrease in the rate of sexual abuse and a 29% decrease in physical abuse.

The recent national study was released with no public notice or press release, which contrasted with the Clinton administration’s highly touted release in 1996 of the previous NIS that had found large increases in child abuse and neglect.

The report confirmed the anecdotal concerns of some critics of child-protection agencies because it singled out as “endangered” children not enrolled in school — including home-schooled children, children from large families and children whose mother is abused.

For instance, the report found that sentinels were most likely to file abuse or neglect allegations against families with four or more children.

“The real epidemic is in false reports,” said Stephen Krason, professor of political science and legal studies at the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. “Some people will think large families must have neglect because parents couldn’t possibly look after all of these kids.”

Krason, who has overviewed the existing research on child-protection overreach, said the data reflect a focus by the agencies and other “mandated reporters” on families that they disfavor for personal reasons, including anti-Christian bias. Such mandated reporters are uniquely exempt from civil liability claims and are not required to provide actual evidence of abuse or neglect to submit families to lengthy and invasive investigations.

“These people are notorious for inserting many things under the label of ‘abuse’ that no commonsense person would think of as abuse,” Krason said.  FULL STORY

Former officer on child sex charges

Australia- A former NSW police officer has been charged with a string of child sex offences including producing child pornography.

The 40-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after a Sydney home and business were searched about midday, uncovering a number of computer hard drives, discs, notes and photographs, police said.

The items were removed for forensic analysis and the man was taken to Camden Police Station, in Sydney's southwest.

He was charged with five counts of sexual intercourse with a child aged between 10 and 16 in circumstances of aggravation, two counts of producing child pornography and six counts of publishing child pornography.

He was refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday.

Child Sex Suspect Facing More Charges
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) --

A man already facing charges in connection with alleged sexual encounters with a minor, was rearrested during a hearing today and is facing even more charges.

According to police, another juvenile came forward claiming he also had sexual encounters with 40-year old Paul David Weimer.

Weimer had obtained legal guardianship over the boy and police said there may be more victims because the incidents included more than one child.

He is now facing additional charges that include: involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, indecent assault, endangering welfare of children and corruption of minors.

Previously, State police investigators said Weimer started a sexual relationship even though he knew the male was a juvenile after he answered to a men serving men advertisement on Craigslist.

"The individual who was arrested last night responded to the ad immediately they began to communicate through e-mail and at some point in time they started to communicate through texting and then arranged to meet for the first time and they had an ongoing relationship of a sexual nature," Tpr. Robin Mungo said last week.

The criminal complaint says Weimer and the juvenile had numerous sexual encounters at his home in Monroeville and in public places.

If Weimer is charged with more severe sexually related charges, it won't be the first time.

The complaint says he was previously charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault.*

He was convicted of corruption of minors and authorities say sexual activity with juveniles was involved.

*Note paragraph 3 above- "Weimer had obtained legal guardianship over the boy".  Either somebody officially did NO background check or somebody officially DOESN'T CARE.

Child sex-abuse charges against former trooper dropped

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A Chesterfield County prosecutor today withdrew child sex abuse charges against a former Virginia State Police captain after concluding that the young girl would be unable to testify against him.

Commonwealth's Attorney Duncan Minton announced the decision at a hearing today. Minton said the decision not to proceed in a trial against Edward L. Hope Jr., 53, of Goochland County was made after consulting with the girl's family and therapist.

The abuse stemmed from alleged daily sexual encounters over a three-year span that began when the girl, now 13, was in second grade. The arrest warrant stated the alleged offenses took place between September 2002 and September 2003. He was charged with a felony count of forcible sodomy in January 2009.

Min ton said there is no statute of limitations on felony cases in Virginia, so there's still a possibility the girl may be able to testify in the future.

Does the Web Mean the End of Forgetting?
Posted By Dr. Mercola | August 10 2010

Millions of people around the globe are confronting a relatively new problem -- how best to live their lives in a world where the Internet records everything.

According to a recent survey, 75 percent of U.S. recruiters and human-resource professionals are required by their companies to do online research about candidates -- which may include using search engines, social-networking sites, photo- and video-sharing sites, and personal Web sites.

And 70 percent of U.S. recruiters have rejected candidates because of information found online, ranging from photos to discussion-board conversations to membership in controversial groups.

The New York Times reports:

"We've known for years that the Web allows for unprecedented voyeurism, exhibitionism and inadvertent indiscretion, but we are only beginning to understand the costs of an age in which so much of what we say, and of what others say about us, goes into our permanent -- and public -- digital files.

The fact that the Internet never seems to forget is threatening ... our ability to control our identities".

This is reason #1 why we wiped the old AFRA Membership listing out.  People who went through a CPS character assassination EIGHT years ago still had the lurid details of CPS' insane allegations of them on the internet.  They were being denied employment or harassed because of CPS' OLD LIES and CLOSED CASES.

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP/WBOC)- A judge has scheduled an Aug. 31 hearing on claims that Delaware State Police illegally searched a building where they found critical computer evidence in the child sexual abuse case against pediatrician Earl B. Bradley.

Public defender Stephanie Tsantes declined comment Monday on the defense motion pending before Superior Court Judge William Carpenter, which seeks to suppress evidence seized from an outbuilding at Bradley's medical office in the Lewes area.

The defense claims evidence seized in a search of the doctor's office and two outbuildings last year should be thrown out because the search warrant did not cover the entire area.

Prosecutors have not yet filed a response.

Bradley, 57, faces more than 500 charges of sexual assault in cases involving more than 100 children. Prosecutors have said it could be the worst child sex abuse case in the nation's history.

How come falsely accused parents seldom get a public defender that puts up any defense?

Mother of Slain Girl Sues DCS, Father's Estate

DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) — The mother of a 15-year-old Dyersburg girl who was killed by her father after she claimed he sexually abused her is suing the state.

Jessica Readen, of Roseburg, Ore., claims the Department of Children's Services failed to protect her daughter when it moved her into the house of neighbors Todd and Susan Randolph, two doors down from her father, Christopher Milburn.

Milburn killed himself on Aug. 2 of last year, shortly after killing his daughter and Todd Randolph.

The State Gazette reports Readen's suit claims the Randolphs called a DCS caseworker's cell phone repeatedly on Aug 1 and 2 because they were concerned about Milburn's behavior, but their calls were never answered.

Readen has also filed a $13 million lawsuit against Milburn's estate and his widow, Amber Milburn.

A Welfare Check and a Voting Card

After years of deliberate neglect, the Justice Department is finally beginning to enforce the federal law requiring states to provide voter registration at welfare and food stamp offices. The effort not only promises to bring hundreds of thousands of hard-to-reach voters into the electorate, but it could also reduce the impact of advocacy organizations whose role in registering voters caused such a furor in 2008.

The National Voter Registration Act of 1993, better known as the motor-voter law, is well-known for making it possible to register to vote at state motor vehicle offices. 17-year-old stabs, critically injures 74-year-old foster mom on Far South Side
August 9, 2010
Sun-Times Media Wire

Chicago- Police are looking for a 17-year-old man who they believe stabbed his 74-year-old foster mom multiple times, leaving her critically hurt after the attack Sunday night in the Far South Side Calumet Heights neighborhood.

At 11:15 p.m., a 17-year-old man locked out of his foster home on the 9100 block of South Woodlawn Avenue broke in and stabbed his 74-year-old foster mother multiple times, a South Chicago District lieutenant said.

She was critically wounded although police could not immediately confirm where she was hospitalized and where on her body she was stabbed.

The man then fled the scene and police continue to search for him, police said.  FULL STORY

US law enforcement 'failing' on child prostitution

American law enforcement agencies are being accused of not doing enough to combat the problem of child prostitution.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the United States estimates that between 100,000 and 300,000 American children are forced into prostitution every year - sometimes through being kidnapped near their homes.

Some are as young as 12 years old.

Asia was 17 when she was approached by a pimp in Wisconsin. She had run away from home after having problems with her family.

She said: "It was a very vulnerable time in my life and I didn't have any support.

"A pimp offered me a better life and I agreed. He posted me on the internet and men called me and I ended up selling my body and having sex for money."

The NCMEC, which focuses on finding missing children and educating the public on how to prevent child abduction and sex abuse, says many victims are runaways and homeless youths.

...Ernie Allen, president of NCMEC, says this is an enormous problem that's not recognised enough and under-reported.

He said: "These kids are commodities for sale or trade. There is a network. They are trafficked, moved from city to city for the financial gain of those who use, abuse and control them."  FULL STORY

Social workers attempt calm removals
Jennifer Jacobs • The Des Moines Register • August 9, 2010

Iowa social workers' old way of abruptly pulling children from parents suspected of abuse or neglect is too traumatizing for everyone involved, the state's top child welfare officials believe.

That method still is the norm in almost all of Iowa's counties. But in an experiment in Polk County, social workers forewarn parents that they intend to remove a child. And they invite parents to help make the removal easier:

Pack favorite belongings, schedule visits to see the child in foster care, hug their son or daughter goodbye.

National experts view the Iowa Department of Human Services' new strategy as only a partial step toward better involving families in protecting children.

Iowa has one of the higher rates in the nation of social workers removing children from their homes.

DHS wants to take Polk County's approach statewide: Unless a child is in immediate danger of injury or death*, social workers conduct a "pre-removal conference." The meeting gives troubled parents a chance to find a relative to care for the children** and time to explain to the kids what's happening, said Wendy Rickman, DHS' top official for child protection.

"What we used to do is just go get them," Rickman said. "You had kids screaming, and you had parents screaming. You're taking babies from Mom, and you're pulling and they're pulling, and you're trying to figure out: 'How do I get clothing for this kid?' And then you don't leave with their favorite stuffed toy and the things that are going to comfort that child. Kids left in diapers."

When Polk County social workers started forewarning parents 2½ years ago, they feared families would disappear.

"We've only had one runner," said Rickman, administrator of the Child and Family Services division.

Rickman said she knows of no case when a child suffered severe abuse between the pre-removal conference and when social workers picked up the child.

"Our mantra is be very hard on the problem, but be very easy on the people," Rickman said. "We say, 'You cannot abuse or you neglect your kids,' but in the process, the system should not further traumatize.'"  FULL STORY

Research fraud: Dr. Reuben now claims he had "bipolar disorder" which caused him to fake clinical trials
Monday, August 09, 2010 by: David Gutierrez, Natural News staff writer

In the world of psychiatric drug fraud, it doesn't get any funnier than this: Dr. Scott Reuben, the research con man caught fabricating clinical data for psych drugs, now essentially claims that "bipolar disorder" made him do it!

Why is this so funny? Because he's using a completely made-up disease to explain why he made up fake data in order to support the FDA approval of drugs used to treat another made-up disease. (That's called "circular psychiatric logic...")

Welfare report criticised as being off the mark
NZPA August 9, 2010, 5:22 pm

A Welfare Working Group (WWG) report describing New Zealand's welfare system as outdated, unsustainable and not achieving what people should expect has been criticised as missing the point.

The WWG was established by the Government in April to review the welfare system and recommend how to improve economic and social outcomes for those in it.

A discussion document it released today said long-term benefit reliance had become increasingly prevalent.

"We have come to the view that the scale and consequences of long-term benefit receipt are deeply concerning and that the system is not achieving what New Zealanders could reasonably expect," said WWG chairwoman Paula Rebstock.

It said there were 98,300 people on domestic purposes benefits, 97,500 people on invalids benefits, 75,300 on unemployment benefits and 65,700 on sickness benefits. There were more than 356,000 people drawing some sort of benefit.

The report said the current system was unsustainable, didn't provide equal and fair opportunities for people on different benefit types and was associated with poor social outcomes.

Benefit support became important when the global economic crisis hit in 2008, the WWG said.

"But there is also evidence that many people who entered the benefit system as a result of the last recession have found it difficult to escape, and may go on to spend many years out of work."

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett and Prime Minister John Key in March announced plans to reduce the number of people receiving benefits by supporting them back into work and tightening rules around benefit eligibility.  FULL STORY

The State Retaliating Against the People

A news item informs us that Camden, New Jersey, may shut down its city libraries if more financing is not forthcoming. A veiled threat to sell or destroy its book collection has even been offered to rattle the cages of the electorate. Such responses by government officials are not uncommon. When Proposition 13 was passed by California voters in 1978 — greatly reducing state property taxes — a number of cities immediately announced that they would cut back on library and/or city parks services. How dare the rabble stick its collective nose into the affairs of state?

It should be noted that the services local governments are the first to curtail are those actually desired by the citizenry. There is rarely a suggestion made that the jobs of city administrators be eliminated. After all, someone has to be shooting paper-clips at his fellow workers, or reading People magazine, or solving the daily crossword puzzle! The assumption prevails that, while non-government employment or programs are subject to curtailment during economic recessions, the continued employment of these make-believe “public servants” should remain protected.

As officials of various cities look for ways to cut their costs, let them begin with those agencies and services that the local citizenries do not value: perhaps meter maids, traffic courts, or health departments that spend their time ferreting out little girls’ lemonade stands, would be places to start.

Not to mention the totally out-of-control insane fascist CPS agencies.  Are CPS Sociopaths?

Britain's forced adoptions: the hidden scandal we can't ignore
Our social workers normally hit the headlines when some Baby P-type horror story comes to light, showing how they failed to intervene when a child was so maltreated by its parents that it died.

By Christopher Booker
Published: 9:00PM BST 07 Aug 2010
London Telegraph, UK

What don't usually make the news, however, are the hundreds of cases when the social workers' failure is the very opposite: where, aided by police and courts, they seem determined to remove children from responsible parents, to consign them to an often miserable life with foster carers or to adoption.

Having examined many such cases in recent months, some in exhaustive detail, and spoken to experts who are deeply disturbed by what is going on, I have no hesitation in describing this as one of the worst hidden scandals in Britain today.

It is clear that the child protection system created under the Children's Act 1989 has gone horrifyingly off the rails, leading one High Court judge recently to compare it to the kind of thing which went on in 'Stalin's Russia or Mao's China'.

Two general aspects of this system failure are particularly shocking, One is the callous disregard the system shows for both parents and children in failing to uphold the central principle it was set up to protect: the interests of the children.

The other is how the system is shrouded in such secrecy that its workings remain almost entirely concealed from public view.

What is remarkable is how consistently this system displays the same fundamental flaws. From the moment social workers intrude into their lives, the parents find themselves treated like criminals, plunged into a Kafka underworld.

When their children are seized, on suspicions which too often turn out to be unfounded, this is almost invariably with full support from the police. When one mother was recently breast-feeding her newborn baby at 3 o'clock in the morning, no fewer than nine police officers and social workers entered the hospital room to wrest the baby from her.

The parents then find themselves caught up in a court system which seems almost entirely geared to taking their children away. There seems no one outside the system they can turn to. The judges seem predisposed against them, Even their own lawyers can seem as much part of the system as those acting for the other side. When independent experts wish to put their case, their evidence is often ignored.

...Family courts should no longer be allowed to accept mere 'hearsay' evidence, Social workers should no longer be allowed to snatch children simply on vague suspicions that they might suffer 'emotional harm'. Finally, the courts should no longer be allowed to exclude evidence from independent experts just because this might challenge the social workers' case.

With these reforms, says Mr Josephs, much of the rampant injustice of this system might be removed. Since Parliament gave social workers such extraordinary power over other people's lives, politicians have by and large stepped away from the hideous abuse of that power which has resulted, Only the politicians can now get this tragically corrupted system back on the rails.  FULL STORY

America Is at Risk of Boiling Over

...Our problems as a nation have been growing on us for a long time. Their future growth, and the implications of that growth, could be predicted. But there is one thing that is both new since 1994 and huge. It took hold and settled in after the crash of 2008, but its causes were not limited to the crash.

The biggest political change in my lifetime is that Americans no longer assume that their children will have it better than they did. This is a huge break with the past, with assumptions and traditions that shaped us. More Peggy Noonan

The country I was born into was a country that had existed steadily, for almost two centuries, as a nation in which everyone thought—wherever they were from, whatever their circumstances—that their children would have better lives than they did. That was what kept people pulling their boots on in the morning after the first weary pause: My kids will have it better. They'll be richer or more educated, they'll have a better job or a better house, they'll take a step up in terms of rank, class or status. Smoking in the car is child abuse, GP Steve Field warns
People should accept health advice, says Professor Field
BBC

Parents who smoke in cars in front of small children are "committing a form of child abuse", a leading GP has said.

Professor Steve Field, chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners, has condemned society's attitudes to food, alcohol and cigarettes.

In a letter to the Observer newspaper, he said parents had to take more responsibility for their children's health - and set a good example.

He said irresponsible behaviour led to high levels of disease and early death.

He called on parents, mothers-to-be, the obese, smokers and drinkers to turn into healthy role models for their children.

You need to face facts and take responsibility”

End Quote Professor Steve Field, Royal College of GPs

Professor Field, who represents 42,000 GPs across the UK, added: "I suppose the same people also smoke at home in front of their children.

"Evidence from the US indicates that more young children are killed by parental smoking than by all other unintentional injuries combined."*  FULL STORY

Florida Bans Foster Children from Clinical Drug Trials
August 06, 2010 by Pareesha Narang
Youth Today

Sixteen months after 7-year-old Gabriel Myers committed suicide while taking psychotropic drugs, the state of Florida has banned allowing any children in the state’s custody from participating in clinical drug trials.

It is unclear if Gabriel was involved in any clinical trials. The doctor who prescribed the medicines to him was conducting clinical trials involving psychotropic drops and the Food and Drug Administration sent him a warning letter earlier this year about overdosing children who were involved in those trials.

The Florida ban was imposed after the state tried to find out from the FDA if Gabriel or any other foster care child in Florida was a participant in such trials, and the FDA said it could not disclose such information and that mostly they know participants by only coded identifiers.

Though Florida officials had suggested that, under such circumstances, the Federal Food and Drug Administration ban all foster care children from participating in such trials, the agency refused, saying the children might benefit from the drugs.  FULL STORY

Sen. DeMint: Ratifying U.N. Children’s Rights Treaty Would Turn Parental Rights ‘Over to International Community’
Friday, August 06, 2010
By Christopher A. Guzman

Washington (CNSNews.com) - Sen. Jim DeMint (R- S.C.) said that if President Barack Obama gets his way and the Senate ratifies the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the precedent would be set to place parental rights under the jurisdiction of the international community.

“We believe we need to take clear action here in Congress to protect the rights of parents to raise their children," DeMint said at a Wednesday panel discussion. "This treaty would, in fact, establish a precedent that those rights have been given over to the international community."

DeMint is lead sponsor of S. Res. 519, a resolution to protect parental rights, which is co-sponsored by 30 senators total. Only four more senators need to sign on to inform President Obama that he does not have enough votes in the Senate to ratify the treaty, DeMint said.

DeMint has also introduced a joint resolution, proposing a constitutional amendment to protect parental rights.  FULL STORY

Personality Set for Life By 1st Grade, Study Suggests

Our personalities stay pretty much the same throughout our lives, from our early childhood years to after we're over the hill, according to a new study.

The results show personality traits observed in children as young as first graders are a strong predictor of adult behavior.

"We remain recognizably the same person," said study author Christopher Nave, a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Riverside. "This speaks to the importance of understanding personality because it does follow us wherever we go across time and contexts."

The study will be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Social Psychological and Personality ScienceFULL STORY

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children snatched children off streets and playgrounds, out of homes, schools and stores, anywhere they could be found a few feet away from their parents. Within minutes, victims were taken to one of three transport agencies. The system was "justified" by massive Federal propaganda that touted immigrant parents as "child abusers."

Foster care youth share hopes, dreams at MSU camp
Alisha Green • agreen3@lsj.com • August 6, 2010

EAST LANSING, Michigan - Some ran from Child Protective Services because being put into “the system” was a scarier notion than abuse and hunger.

Some have never had a Christmas or birthday celebration.

They all just want to know someone cares.

Children and young adults from the Michigan foster care system took turns for more than two hours this morning sharing their stories, concerns, hopes and dreams with more than 50 policy makers from across the state in hopes of improving the system.

The discussion, called KidSpeak, was part of a four-day camp at Michigan State University designed to encourage foster care youth to finish high school and attend college. The camp is a partnership between the MSU School of Social Work, MSU College of Law and the nonprofit youth-advocacy group Michigan’s Children.

Many of the youth shared stories of abuse and neglect. They asked policymakers to consider ways to make the foster care system a safer process that sets them up for success.

“This was my opportunity to get outspoken,” said Orlando Mitchell, a 20-year-old who spent years in the foster care system.

South Dakota: a foster care parent pimps on her foster child
Human Rights Examiner Youngbee Dale

This monday, a 24 year old foster parent was arrested for forcing her 17 year old foster child into prostitution in South Dakota. According to the report, 24 year old Autumn Dubray was a court appointment guardian of the 17 year old victim. After losing her job, Dubray have been prostituting herself and brought men to her apartment for prostitution. Dubray also told the 17 year old girl that if the 17 year old did not sleep with one of the men that she brought home for prostitution, she would have to kick her out of the apartment. As novel as it sounds to many Americans, this case however reveals only a glimpse of the truth behind the foster care system in the United States.

...What's more, one study by Johns Hopkins University says that the rate of sexual abuse within the foster care system is four times higher than it is in general population. Also, the rate of sexual abuse in group home is 28 times higher than that of the general population.

Foster care and sex slavery

Child sexual abuse in foster care, among many other things, becomes an hindrance in fight against human trafficking. As much as children under foster care are vulnerably exposed to sexual exploitation within the system, they are more likely to enter into the world of prostitution with the low self-esteem and other psychological factors leading them to sell their bodies. In particular, young adults who are no longer eligible to be under the state foster care system choose to enter the prostitution for survival. In some cases, pimps use foster homes to recruit younger girls for prostitution by sending other girls working for them.   FULL STORY

Sexual Abuse: An Epidemic in Foster Care Settings?
July 17, 2009
By Orlow, Orlow & Orlow

"As many as 75 percent of all children in foster care, upon leaving the system, will have experienced sexual abuse."

An approximate 0.73 percent of American children, over 530,000, live in foster care. Many of these children have been abused in some way. According to child welfare workers, 11 percent of all such cases of mistreatment involve sexual abuse.

Abuse in the System

As many as 75 percent of all children in foster care, upon leaving the system, will have experienced sexual abuse. One study by Johns Hopkins University found that the rate of sexual abuse within the foster-care system is more than four times as high as in the general population; in group homes, the rate of sexual abuse is more than 28 times that of the general population. These statistics do not speak to the situation these children are coming from, but it does show the very large problem of child-on-child sexual abuse within the system.

Foster children who suffer sexual abuse tend to be those who live with those caregivers who have the least verbal contact with child-welfare workers. It is believed that among the many reasons for this, a large factor is the lack of support those families receive from case workers.

...Whatever your relationship is to a child you suspect is being, or has been abused, acting quickly is in the child's best interest. Furthermore, it is the law. Enabling further abuse of a child through inaction can, in a growing number of jurisdictions, lead to a finding of culpability for damage stemming from continued abuse. (unless of course, it is the CPS agent allowing it to happen)  FULL STORY

"There are more than half a million children and youth in the U.S. foster care system today. Studies reveal that children are 11 times more likely to be abused in state care than they are in their own homes, and 7 times more likely to die as a result of abuse in the foster care system."-- John Walsh Show April 16, 2003

Not since the overthrow of the Weimar Republic have the leaders of a major democracy used their offices and the mass media to disseminate invective against millions of their own citizens. In fact it was Adolph Hitler who urged that “the state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people” and who explained, in the words of Rabbi Daniel Lapin, that “as long as government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people happily will endure almost any curtailment of liberty.” Using children to tug on our heartstrings may be not only a weakness of the sentimental. It also may be a ploy by those cynical and unscrupulous enough to exploit children for their own purposes.

This is likely to be remembered as one of the most diabolical perversions of governmental power in our history, a time when we allowed children to be used and abused by fast-talking government officials and paid for it with our families, our social order and our constitutional rights.-- STEPHEN BASKERVILLE (in about 2000)

The granddaddy of all Ponzi schemes—Social Security—will, for the first time, pay out more than it takes in this year. For those of us cynics who have read Ludwig Von Mises’s Socialism, this is the best news since the fall of the Soviet Union. Once this socialist boondoggle starts to unravel—as more and more Baby Boomers retire in the next 10 years—there will be even less money coming into the Social Security system than is being paid out. Can the fall of Medicare and Medicaid be far behind? Uh…actually no, according to Gauleiter Tim Geithner. Geithner announced a few days ago that he and his fellow liars trustees have determined that Medicare is in fine fettle until at least 2029. Remember, Geithner is the same “trusty” person who, as head of the economy-”stabilizing” New York Federal Reserve Bank, never foresaw the crash of 2008 coming. The reason for Gauleiter Geithner’s optimism is because he believes that the 1000+ page Rothschild/Rockefeller Obama Health Care Plan will reduce the cost of Medicare. Sure, just like all government programs “reduce” the cost of anything they get involved with. And how does the government achieve these cost-”reducing” miracles all the time? By going trillions of dollars into debt. (“Hey Mom, I just bought a $750,000 Ferrari 599 on my $50,000 a year salary. Nope, it didn’t cost me a penny. How did I do it? I just borrowed the $750,000 to pay for it. Do I know how to reduce my costs, or what?”)

By the way, don’t you just love the title of the article: “It’s Official: Social Security System Now in the Red”? As far as I’m concerned, Socialist Insecurity was alwaysred.”

Arizona Governor Brewer commits to end child abuse
August 6, 2010 Posted: 9:32 AM
By: Steve Kuzj

PHOENIX - It is very rare that the entire country can ever come together on something, but when it involves child abuse everyone seems to be in agreement.

Friday, Governor Jan Brewer will unveil a new commitment to eliminate child abuse backed by the governors of all 50 states.

Supporters with the anti-child abuse organization, Childhelp say this new resolution could not have come soon enough.

“The fall of the U.S. economy has put a lot of families on hard times,” Childhelp’s Vice President, Paul Penzone said. “Child abuse is up more than ever now because of money frustrations.”

According to the United Nations Children's Fund, 51 children died from abuse in 2009 in Arizona alone. The organization says five children die per day in the U.S. from child abuse. UNICEF says those deaths add up to more than 1,700 children annually.

Based on a UNICEF report, the United States has abuse and neglect death rates that are 10 to 15 times higher than the average for leading countries. The U.S. represents 42 percent of the world’s total deaths for children under the age of 15 in abuse related cases.

“This resolution is a commitment to provide governmental support to more troubled families,” said Penzone. ”The aim is to eliminate as much abuse as possible.”

The unveiling will take place at the state capitol in downtown Phoenix at 10:30 a.m.

I wonder if these talking heads have a single clue about WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT?  AFRA certainly does.  We would produce Public Service Announcements showing kids being slammed around and shoved kicking and screaming into white vans while CPS agents are cussing at them.  In the background, the parents are cornered on their porch by deputies pointing their guns at them.  The message- "Get accused of abusing your kids and you will lose them."  Scene cuts to a courtroom where the parents are Legally Abused to the extreme with NO Due Process.  Scene cuts to a foster home where kids are doped out of their heads and being beat up and raped by other foster kids or the fosters themselves.  Scene cuts to a casket and crying parents.  Fill the TV airwaves full of these PSA's so nobody could possibly miss seeing them repeatedly.  It's called EDUCATION.

Wallowing in ignorance in L.A.

It's always been something of a mystery why those serial grandstanders on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors do an even worse job of handling child welfare than their counterparts in most of the rest of the country. Did I say most? Actually, I've never seen a political governing body do worse.

Today, I discovered one possible reason: Maybe it has something to do with poor choices when hiring staff.

Certainly it would be hard to do worse than to listen to Wendy Ramallo, a former senior legislative deputy to Supervisor Gloria Molina. She wrote an op ed column in the Los Angeles Times called "How to fix L.A. County's broken child welfare system." A better title would be "How to make sure L.A. County's broken child welfare system never, ever gets better."

The column is a collection of all the usual family-bashing demagoguery that has characterized the politics of Los Angeles County child welfare for decades. Keeping families together is scapegoated for every recent high-profile tragedy (except, of course, the recent death in foster care, which Ramallo simply leaves off her list). And Ramallo says that Los Angeles County, already in the midst of a foster-care panic and taking children at a higher rate than most big metropolitan areas, should be consigning even more children to the chaos of foster care.

So it's no surprise that almost every one of the "solutions" Ramallo has tried has been tried elsewhere – and failed.  FULL STORY

Parents Lose Custody of Hitler
Pair with Nazi-named kids 'psychologically disabled'
By Mary Papenfuss Posted Aug 6, 2010 2:07 AM CDT Updated Aug 6, 2010 6:06 AM CDT

(Newser) – New Jersey parents have lost custody of a son they named Adolf Hitler, as well as daughters Jocelynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie. The Appeals court ruling overturned a family court decision, and found that the parents suffer from unspecified physical and psychological disabilities. Heath and Deborah Campbell were victims of childhood abuse and neither "have received adequate treatment for their serious psychological conditions," the ruling stated. The parents "recklessly created a risk of serious injury to their children by failing to protect them from harm and failing to treat their disabilities," the judges ruled.

They cited a typo-riddled note written by Adolf Hitler's mom and slipped to a neighbor warning that her husband had threatened to kill her, reports AP. "Hes alread tried it a few times. Im afread that he might hurt my children if they are keeped in his care," wrote Deborah Campbell, who later called the note she admitted writing "a lie." The family attracted the attention of the media and child welfare authorities after a local supermarket refused last year to decorate a birthday cake with 3-year-old Adolf Hitler's name on it.

Apparently, you are still psychologically OK if you name your kids Mao or Stalin or Osama.

Had anyone checked, it would have been obvious that John Hardy Jackson should not be a foster parent.

His first wife found him fondling their 1-year-old son and filed for divorce. He overdosed on drugs and was arrested for drunken driving. He beat his own son with a belt and kicked his pregnant wife in the stomach, causing her to lose that baby.

Yet Jackson's Mountain View home was licensed as a foster home. The sex acts he forced the children in his care to perform sent him to prison for 220 years. And on Wednesday, his behavior persuaded a civil court jury in San Jose to award $30 million to one of his male victims, who is now 25.

The victim, who lives in the South Bay, "is haunted every day by this stuff," said Stephen Estey, the San Diego attorney who represented him. "Jackson always wore a ton of Brut cologne and when my client gets around someone who's wearing it, he gets panic attacks and flashbacks and thinks he's going to die."

Starting when he was 11 years old, he was forced into more than 600 acts of sexual abuse from December 1995 to March 1999, according to the suit. The victim finally left the home when his father was able to take him back, Estey said.  FULL STORY

(Reporting by Richard Cowan; Editing by Eric Walsh)

Thu Aug 5, 9:30 pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Senate on Thursday approved $4.5 billion in additional funds for child nutrition programs over the next 10 years, in a move that backers said was the largest investment in those feeding programs ever.

The measure passed the Senate unanimously as lawmakers hurried to begin a five-week recess.

A House of Representatives committee has approved a bill providing nearly double the amount of money, so the initiative still has several steps to go through in the Democratic-controlled Congress before final passage.

Senate Democrats, mindful of huge federal budget deficits (that is a joke, right?), said the cost of the additional money to help feed poor children and women would be offset by changes to other Department of Agriculture programs. Do you believe that?

The vote by the Senate comes as demands for federal nutrition programs have increased significantly following a severe economic recession from which the United States is slowly emerging. Or not

According to U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics, 17 million households representing 49 million people were "food insecure" at some point during 2009. This is the highest level since 1995, when the first national food survey was conducted.

The legislation is designed to bolster school lunch programs and other government nutrition plans that are set to expire on September 30 unless Congress approves new funding.

The bill also takes steps to address the growing problem of childhood obesity by setting national nutrition standards for all foods dispensed at schools.

Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Blanche Lincoln said the bill "will finally put us on a path toward improving the health of the next generation of Americans, providing common-sense solutions to tackling childhood hunger and obesity." Blanche Lincoln is clueless

USDA and school systems have come under criticism in recent years for menus that are high in fat and sugar, contributing to overweight children. Video games, no work, and no exercise is the problem

West New York man who had sex with 13-year-old child in Illinois gets 20 years in prison

WEST NEW YORK — A northern New Jersey man who admitted traveling twice to Illinois to have sex with a 13-year-old child has been sentenced to more than 20 years in federal prison.

Thirty-seven-year-old Eric Duprey of West New York received the 250-month sentence Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Trenton.

He pleaded guilty in February to interstate travel with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Investigators who searched Duprey's home in April 2009 looking for evidence of child pornography found journals, photographs and computer records detailing Duprey's involvement with the 13-year-old child as well as past sexual abuse of other children.

Prosecutors say they also found a detailed guide written by Duprey on how to seduce teenage boys for sex.

Former Tucson superintendent gets 8 years for child sex tourism and porn

TUCSON, Ariz.- A former superintendent was sentenced to 8 years behind bars for child sex tourism and child pornography.

Albert Thomas Rogers is a former school superintendent for the Tanque Verde Unified School District. He entered a guilty plea in November 2009 to charges that he tried to travel to Mexico to have sex with a 13 or 14-year-old boy. He also admitted to having child pornography on him at the time.

The former superintendent reportedly admitted to booking a ‘sex tourism’ visit to Mexico through Yuma. On June 19 of last year he says he traveled there and met someone whom he thought was a driver sent to pick him up but was really an undercover ICE agent.

“It is disturbing that someone, having held such a trusted position with children, could have acted with such depravity and committed these illegal acts targeting child victims,” says U.S. Attorney Dennis K. Burge.

A news release from the United States Department of Justice indicates that Rogers paid the supposed driver $260 for hotel expenses and to have sex with a young boy. He also admitted to owning a pornographic video depicting a child as young as 5 years old engaging in sexual conduct. FULL STORY

Japan's child abuse reaches record high
By YURI KAGEYAMA, Associated Press Writer – Thu Aug 5, 5:48 am ET

TOKYO- Child abuse cases in Japan have risen to a record high, according to police data released Thursday, fanning concerns about safeguards in a society long known for strong family values.

Japan has boasted a reputation as a relatively crime-free nation, and has a culture that prides itself on pampering, even spoiling, children.

But recent high-profile cases of child abuse have shattered that image, and have unveiled communities that have grown impersonal and uncaring for the plight of children. (I think the word is "westernized")

...Masami Kimura, a lawyer who has been working to prevent child abuse, said the main change is that more people are now reporting abuse. He believes beatingsexaggeration in the name of discipline and other abuse have been common in Japan for decades. (thousands of years, actually)

"We talk to parents who hit their children*, and they tell us that was the way they were brought up," he said. "But the idea that children have human rights* is now gradually gaining ground."  FULL STORY

*Please note how "hit their children" gets exaggerated to become "beatings" to these morons.

**I think the term "human rights" has taken on a sinister new meaning when it comes to kids.

Here is why I am so grumpy-

....Invading Homes and Schools
One need not go to a health clinic to be subjected to federal healthcare intrusions, either. At least two portions of the act actually provide for government agents to come into individuals’ homes to see to it that they are obeying Washington’s directives.

The first of these is Section 2951, entitled “Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Programs.” This section requires all states to perform a needs assessment that identifies at-risk communities and “the quality and capacity of existing programs or initiatives for early childhood home visitation.” States can then apply for grants to establish early childhood home visitation programs.

The programs will target high-risk communities first, with “high-risk” defined as “eligible families who reside in communities in need of such services,” followed by eligible families with low incomes, pregnant women under 21 years old, “a history of child abuse or neglect … or interactions with child welfare services” (not evidence of actual abuse, mind you; just a visit from government agents on an anonymous tip will suffice), “a history of substance abuse,” “users of tobacco products” (light up and expect a visit from your friendly neighborhood G-man), “children with low student achievement,” “children with developmental delays or disabilities,” or “individuals who are serving or formerly served in the Armed Forces.” That just about covers everyone.

“This section of the law is designed to circumvent the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and give government agents a plausible excuse to enter homes without a warrant, with the ultimate goal of reporting the family to child protective services,” said Hession. The child-protection agents then have every incentive to take children from their families, as evidenced by the fact that over half a million children are now in child protection agency custody in the United States.

The law lays out specific desired outcomes for individual families, many of which sound good. Who could oppose improvements in mothers’ and babies’ health, children’s development, parenting skills, school readiness and academic achievement, crime and domestic violence rates, and family economic self-sufficiency? The detailed regulations established by federal and state bureaucrats to accomplish these general outcomes, however, may not be so benign.

For example, what specific “improvements in parenting skills” might government agents wish to impose on those they visit? Will spanking children or even speaking sharply to them be permitted? What if parents try to inculcate specific moral or religious precepts in their children? Hession noted that homeschoolers and parents who believe in corporal punishment are already among the most targeted by state child protection agencies.

...Government has been the greatest enemy of “family economic self-sufficiency,” having replaced fathers with welfare checks and having taxed Americans to the point that both parents frequently must work outside the home just to make ends meet. Government benefits from families who are dependent on it because those same people will almost always vote for even bigger government, as inner-city voting patterns demonstrate.

It is of little comfort that the law requires that states provide assurances that “the participation of each eligible family in the program is voluntary.” As Hession said, existing “family visitation programs are about as voluntary as the current IRS tax system, which continues to assert that it is based on voluntary compliance.”   FULL STORY

Food stamp use hit record 40.8m in May
Bloomberg News / August 5, 2010
© Copyright 2010 Globe Newspaper Company.

WASHINGTON- The number of Americans who are receiving food stamps rose to a record 40.8 million in May as the jobless rate hovered near a 27-year high, the government reported yesterday.

Recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program subsidies for food purchases jumped 19 percent from a year earlier and increased 0.9 percent from April, the US Department of Agriculture said in a statement on its website.

Participation has set records for 18 straight months.

Unemployment in July may have reached 9.6 percent, according to a Bloomberg News survey of analysts in advance of the Aug. 6 release of last month’s rate. Unemployment was 9.5 percent in June, near levels last seen in 1983.

An average of 40.5 million people, more than an eighth of the population, will get food stamps each month in the year that began Oct. 1, according to White House estimates.

The figure is projected to rise to 43.3 million in 2011.

"I have heard . . . that people may become dependent on us for food. I know that was not supposed to be good news. To me that was good news, because before people can do anything they have got to eat. And if you are looking for a way to get people to lean on you and to be dependent on you, in terms of their cooperation with you, it seems to me that food dependence would be terrific."- Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey, in naming P.L. 480 the "Food for Peace" program, Wall Street Journal, May 7, 1982.

Record number of Illinois families getting food stamps
August 4, 2010
BY DAVE McKINNEY Sun-Times Springfield Bureau Chief

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — The stagnant economy and double-digit unemployment rates in parts of Illinois have led to a record number of families getting food stamps, the state reported Tuesday.

During June, 786,162 households across Illinois took part in the federally-subsidized SNAP food-stamp program, which marks an 11.9 percent jump over levels from a year ago, according to the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Statewide, June applications for food stamps rose 27 percent from a year ago to 178,415, a jump DHS said was part of a national trend that could see as many as 43 million Americans on food stamps in 2011. That national total would represent a record.

“A lot of the stigma is starting to go away with one out of every six Americans on SNAP benefits,” DHS spokeswoman Marielle Sainvilus said. “More and more are applying, from seniors to students to middle-class families.”

The agency, which allows food-stamp applicants to enroll online at http://www.dhs.state.il.us/, reported seeing increases in parts of suburbia that generally are considered more affluent, including DuPage and Lake counties.

“What’s really surprising about the SNAP program is that the people it serves are the people who often times would never have expected to be in this position,” said Bob Dolgan, spokesman for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.  FULL STORY

Texas State receives $781K grant to educate social workers
San Marcos News
August 4th, 2010
STAFF REPORT

Texas State has received a $781,000 grant from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to prepare students for careers in Title IV-E public child welfare.

The grant will benefit students and faculty in the College of Applied Arts, the Center for Children and Families and the School of Social Work.

Fewer than 25 percent of child protective service workers in Texas hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work.

Education and training will focus on enhancing caseworker skills necessary for administering the Title IV-E foster care program. In addition to providing support for current students, the funds will support training for current DFPS Title IV-E staff and foster and adoptive parents.

Through the partnership, 42 social work students will receive specialized education and support, while faculty will develop innovative, research-based curriculum modules for best practices in the field of public child welfare.

Texas State has prepared more than 300 students for public child welfare in the last 16 years. The program is co-directed by Regents Professor Nancy Feyl Chavkin and Professor Emerita Karen Brown.

Children Services looks at aiding elderly
Expanding to abuse cases involving older adults might require more tax money
By Rick Armon
Beacon Journal staff writer
Published on Tuesday, Aug 03, 2010

OHIO- Summit County Children Services is looking into expanding its programming to include older adults — an effort that may involve seeking more taxpayer money.

Agency Executive Director John Saros said he's interested in handling at least abuse and neglect cases for the elderly, since the agency already provides similar oversight for children.

....''It would be a very nice marriage,'' she said of the effort in Summit County. ''Adult protective services has so many similarities with child protective services.''

....Agency officials admitted there's concern about how the public would react to paying more in taxes.

....But it's unclear how the agency's potential programs would conflict or mesh with existing services, such as those offered by the county's Department of Job and Family Services, Mature Services and Area Agency on Aging.

...''I know these are tough times and it's a tough situation, but at the same time, I think there is a current need and growing need if you look at the demographics. The population is going to be made up of more and more seniors over time and keeping those seniors out of institutions and out of nursing homes not only does the individual a hell of a lot of good but it will save dollars as well.''  FULL STORY

Defendant Won't Stand Trial in Brunswick Child's Sexual Abuse Killing
By Associated Press
Published: August 03, 2010

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- A judge has found a 34-year-old convicted child molester incompetent to stand trial for the sexual abuse killing of a 6-year-old boy.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett declared George Edenfield incompetent on Tuesday to stand trial for the killing of Christopher Michael Barrios Jr. in 2007.

Prosecutors and Edenfield's lawyers asked for the declaration and cited evaluations by state and defense psychologists showing that Edenfield has a diminished mental capacity and is unable to assist in his own defense.

Edenfield's father, David Edenfield, was found guilty of murdering and molesting Christopher last October. The jury imposed the death penalty.

In a recorded confession played for jurors, David Edenfield said he and his son sodomized the boy, then choked him to death. He is appealing the conviction.

Reminds me of Jesse Dirkhising. Too bad this sort of case doesn't attract the same attention the Matthew Shepard case did.

Heat Things Up in August

I thank and commend you for your excellent work on SR 519 over the last couple of weeks – we currently have 31 senators on record opposing ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), including 30 sponsors of SR 519 and one signer of an “equivalent statement” of opposition to the treaty. That job is not finished until we reach 34, but we are closing in on that number at a good rate.

Yesterday and today are the launch dates for our Declaration Campaign ads, which have already been effective. To put it gently, the ads generated a lot of “interest” in several senate offices and helped lead a number of senators to join the cosponsors of SR 519.

While we want to see this through to the magic number of 34, it is also needful that we turn our attention again to the proposed Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Your senators and congressmen will be back in your state for their “Summer District Work Period” August 9 through September 10, and it is very important that as many of you as possible set up visits with them to urge them to cosponsor the Parental Rights Amendment (HJR 42 or SJR 16). If your senator has not signed SR 519 or an equivalent statement of opposition to the CRC, we would ask that you urge him/her to do that as well.

We also need to increase our reach as elections draw near, by building our mailing list and increasing petition signers all over the country. These two things will increase the pressure we can apply to lawmakers and candidates as November 2 approaches..

Action Items

1. Gather some friends and set up an appointment with your congressman and senators during their Summer District Work Period. For detailed instructions, email Jonathan@parentalrights.org and put "Congressional Visit" in the subject line.

2. Keep up the pressure for SR 519 or an equivalent statement of opposition to the CRC. We are only 3 senators away from success! Visit parentalrights.org/Status for your senator’s phone number.

3. Visit parentalrights.org/webinar for information and to sign up for an online training seminar. We can equip you to teach your friends about the Parental Rights Amendment. You are the key to expanding our reach before Election Day.

4. Send this email to your friends, or even better: Send a short personal note telling your friends that you are deeply concerned about the issues raised at ParentalRights.org, and urge them to visit our site and find out for themselves about the threats to parental liberties in our country. Tell them you signed the petition, and that you hope they will, too.

Gratefully Yours,

Former child social worker guilty of sexual abuse
NZPA August 3, 2010, 7:31 am

New Zealand- A former child social worker has been found guilty of sexually abusing children in his care at an Auckland residential school during the 1980s.

Graeme McCardle, 58, was found guilty of 15 sexual and physical abuse charges in the High Court at Auckland yesterday after six days of jury deliberations. He was cleared of another nine charges, the Dominion Post reported.

The charges related to two women and a man who said they were abused by McCardle when they lived at Waimokoia Residential School in the 1980s. McCardle, who was a social worker at the school, denied all the charges.

Among the incidents McCardle was convicted for was one in which he forced a 12-year-old girl to perform sex acts on him in the school lounge while he watched pornographic movies.

He was also convicted of indecently assaulted a nine-year-old boy in the school's concrete, windowless time-out room.

Officials from San Diego County Child Welfare Services have taken custody of the three siblings of the 2-year-old boy killed Saturday by the family dog, officials said Monday.

Aaron Carlson was mauled by the family’s German shepherd in the family’s home in off-base military housing in San Diego.

Aaron was upstairs while his mother was downstairs, unaware of the attack, authorities said. His father is a deployed Navy sailor.

The move to take custody of the three other children is a routine precaution while officials determine whether their parents can adequately care for them, authorities said.

County animal control officials have euthanized the dog.

Obviously daddy cannot "adequately care" for his children while deployed "fighting for freedom" or whatever the hell they are calling the current decade-long war or "police action".

Officials issue national strategy to fight child sex crimes
By Terry Frieden, CNN Justice Producer
August 2, 2010 3:45 p.m. EDT

Washington (CNN) -- With child sex crimes in the United States sharply increasing, federal officials Monday issued a "national strategy" to combat child exploitation in homes, on streets and over the internet.

Top federal law enforcement officials led by Attorney General Eric Holder vowed to take new steps to stem rampant child pornography, online enticements, child prostitution and child sex tourism.

In a detailed report submitted to Congress Monday, the Justice Department says that since 2006, when the government launched Project Safe Childhood, federal prosecutions have increased by 40 percent, and more than 8,600 defendants have been indicted. More than 2,400 alleged sex offenders were indicted in 2009 alone.

"Tragically, the only place we've seen a decrease is in the age of the victims," Holder said.  FULL STORY

Pass child nutrition bill: Michelle Obama
Reuters
Sun Aug 1, 11:54 pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – First Lady Michelle Obama is calling on the Congress to pass legislation to improve nutritional standards and help fight childhood obesity in American schools.

"We owe it to the children who aren't reaching their potential because they're not getting the nutrition they need during the day," she wrote in the Monday edition of the Washington Post.

"And we owe it to our country -- because our prosperity depends on the health and vitality of the next generation."

The Child Nutrition Bill would allocate $4.5 billion over a decade to support school cafeterias and introduce new standards for food sold in schools, including in vending machines.

The legislation, if passed, would effectively allow the Agriculture Department to ban junk food in schools.

Tackling childhood obesity has become Michelle Obama's signature issue as she spearheads a national campaign with a 70-point plan, challenging Americans to defeat the problem in a generation.  FULL STORY

NOT SO SECURE SOCIALISM
by Brother Gregory Williams
August 1, 2010
NewsWithViews.com

The United States Supreme Court in 1937 validated Social Security as an exercise of the Constitutional taxing power of Congress for the benefit of the general fund of the United States Treasury. The Supreme Court also said that “Congress could, in its future discretion, spend that money for whatever Congress then judged to be the general welfare of the country” having “no constitutional power to earmark or segregate certain kinds of tax proceeds for certain purposes, whether the purposes be farm-price supports, foreign aid or social security payments.” [1]

At the time of its introduction of the Social Security Act to Congress and the American people “The President wanted everybody covered for every contingency in life---’cradle to the grave,’ he called it---under the social insurance[2] system… But the Government of the United States is not an insurance company and so it could be done.” [3]

While the system of Federal Social Security was “sold as if it were insurance” [4] it was not. There is a great deception or a strong delusion that social security taxes are payments of insurance premiums to obtain specified benefits at a specified time. There is no such right.

According to the Social Security Tax Act the government has been under no contractual obligation to make any return payment from the very beginning and has carried the provision that, “The right to alter, amend, or repeal any provision of this act is hereby reserved to the Congress.” [5]

Therefore “Congress could continue to collect the so-called social security pay roll taxes even though Congress discontinued all social security benefit payments.” [6]

This may seem a little scary for some who are or may be dependent upon such payments but that is exactly what you should expect as the national and world economies continues their descent into a domain of devastating decline, debt and disaster. To believe that you have a right to get back specified benefits because you paid into Social Security is a fallacy, if not a delusion and a false hope.  FULL STORY

$2 Million Grant Addresses a Parent's Role in Children’s Behavior
Released: 7/30/2010 11:15 AM EDT

Newswise — A $2 million grant awarded to Washington University in St. Louis’ George Warren Brown School of Social Work will be used to evaluate a parent-training program in the vulnerable child welfare population.

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development award will fund research regarding the Pathways Triple P program. Investigators will determine whether Triple P is effective when applied to families in the child welfare system, compared with (mis)treatment as usual.

State-run child welfare systems "serve" children who (are) the subjects of suspected mistreatment, and their families, making this a "high-risk group" that could benefit greatly from intervention. Or not.

“Pathways Triple P teaches strategies to manage parental anger, challenges negative parental attributes for child misbehavior, and seeks to help parents identify the effect of harsh disciple on their children while identifying causes of their harsh and critical parenting practices*,” says lead investigator, Brown School assistant professor Patricia Kohl.  FULL STORY

And inevitably, the government DOES indeed do something: it gets bigger and more powerful, and spends more money". -David M. Saskatchewan's child welfare system is performing so poorly it needs a complete overhaul, according to the chairman of a panel studying the situation.

Bob Pringle told CBC News on Friday that his evaluation of the current state of affairs reveals a system that is so broken it cannot, in his view, get any worseFULL STORY

I think he means that it is so bad that kids would be far better off without the Child "Welfare" system.

Child Welfare Experts Urge Congress to Expand Title IV-E Waivers
Hearing focuses on impact of more family preservation services

(July 29, 2010)

Youth Today

The federal government should expand a flexible funding program that helps states and counties reform their child welfare systems and keep more children out of foster care, a panel of experts told a congressional committee Thursday.

States participating in the demonstration program, known as the Title IV-E wavier, which  allows federal funding to the state to be shifted into different services, have improved their child abuse and neglect prevention and family preservation, the witnesses told the House Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, under the Ways and Means Committee.

“The waiver has shown dramatic impacts,” said George Sheldon, secretary of Florida’s Department of Children and Families. For example, he said, the number of children in out-of-home care has dropped by 36 percent in the four years since his state was granted a waiver.

He and others told the subcommittee that expanding the waiver program to other states should be part of a larger reform of child welfare financing that would focus more on family preservation and permanency placement for youths removed from their homes.

Under the waiver program, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) allows specific states to spend funds they get under Title IV-E of the Social Security Act on efforts to keep children out of foster care. Normally, Title IV-E money is spent on services and administrative costs for youth in foster care.  FULL STORY

Child Abuse Homicides
Reported by: Kimberly Houk

Last Update: 7/29 9:54 pm

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - It feels like we are seeing more horrific child abuse homicides cases in Utah, but the stats reflect that we are not.

Dr. Doug Goldsmith is a child psychologist who spends his days working with many abused children.

Goldsmith says, “we are certainly seeing an increase in the number of referrals for children struggling with trauma”.

....“What you are seeing is patterns of injuries over time. It’s a child living in a violent situation for a long period of time,” says Teresa Brechlin, with the State Department of Health.

“Being killed by parents is the #1 cause of death in young childhood,” says Dr. Goldsmith  FULL STORY

I sincerely doubted this statement, knowing how high the death rate is from respiratory infections. So I went looking for statistics. What I found directly related to Dr. Goldsmith's statement was-

Risk of unintentional injury death is high for young children

Injuries are the leading cause of death among children after the first year of life, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In a new study, a University of Missouri professor found that children living in households with unrelated adults are six times more likely to die of maltreatment-related unintentional injuries, compared to children living with two biological parents.

The risk of maltreatment death is double for children living with foster or step-parents, or other related adults. However, the risk is not higher for children living in households with a single biological parent and no other adults.

....The study, “Household Composition and Fatal Unintentional Injuries Related to Child Maltreatment”, was co-authored by Bernard G. Ewigman, professor and chairman of the Department of Family Medicine in the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. It was published in the Journal of Nursing Scholarship.-University of Missouri-Columbia.  FULL STORY

So, I am prepared to say that Dr. Goldsmith's statement is FALSE.  According to this study, Injuries are the #1 cause of death, not being killed by parents.

Foster care abuse and neglect up in Fulton and DeKalb
By Craig Schneider
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Georgia- Foster children in Fulton and DeKalb counties are being abused and neglected at the highest rate in four years, according to a report released Thursday by federal monitors of these child welfare systems.

The report on the last six months of 2009 also found that the caseloads of state child welfare workers in these state-run county systems "increased substantially" during that period, and that the agency fell short in providing medical and dental care to foster kids.

Federal appointed monitors James Dimas and Sarah Morrison revealed some of the worst performance by the state Division of Family and Children Services since the monitors began reviewing the systemFULL STORY

White Children were the FIRST Slaves

Don Jordan and Michael Walsh are the English authors of White Cargo: The Forgotten History of Britain’s White Slaves in America (New York, New York University Press, 2008)

There, you will learn that those white “indentured servants” were in fact slaves just as much as the blacks, enslaved in conditions just as bad, and that white slaves were imported into this country almost as long as blacks.  Indeed, the first slaves imported into the American colonies were 100 white children unaccompanied by parents. They arrived during Easter, 1619, four months before the arrival of a much more infamous shipment of black slaves. (P. 76)

Sometimes, the slavers literally tore children from the arms of their parents. White Cargo tells us: “. . . No child from either the town or the surrounding countryside seems to have been safe from the merchants’ agents. They operated openly and with impunity. When parents who had lost their children came looking for them in the town, their elation at finding them still incarcerated awaiting embarkation was short lived on their discovery that they were powerless to bring their children home. . . .” (Pp. 237-38)

The kidnappers were paying off the local judges. Most parents could not afford to pay for the food their kiddos had consumed while prisoners. That’s right! The parents had to pay for that. They had to watch in impotent horror as their children were marched aboard slave ships and sent away to the colonies forever.

Sounds exactly like Children's "Protective" "Services" doesn't it?

We Need Only Five Four More Senators to Kill the CRC

The facts are clear: ratifying the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) would be bad policy for our country. Yet there are still 71 Senators who can’t decide whether they prefer that to our own American law.

We are grateful to those 30 senators with the courage to step forward and be counted opposing this dangerous treaty. And we are grateful to all of you for contacting your senators to produce this kind of response.

But the remaining senators have so far resisted all efforts from their constituents to urge their support of SR 519FULL STORY

Five Things You Should Know About the UN's Children's Rights Treaty:

1. This UN Treaty controls where your child goes to school, what your child may be taught (including religion), how you discipline your child, medical decisions, and much more.

2. This UN Treaty gives the government the power to override any decision you make about your child.

Under U.S. lawnote no government may override the decisions of parents until proving they have harmed the child (abuse, neglect). Under this UN treaty the government could simply substitute its judgment for that of any parent if the government believed that its decision was "best" for the child.

3. The UN Children's Rights Treaty Would Override Virtually All U.S. Law.

Our Constitution provides that treaties become part of the "supreme law of the land," overriding all inconsistent state laws and state constitutions. Since virtually all American law on families and children is state law, this UN treaty would be supreme over the law made by your elected officials about every legal issue for your child

4. A UN Tribunal Would Hold America "Accountable" for Compliance.

A committee of 18 "experts" has two critical powers: 1. The Committee issues official interpretations of the treaty. 2. It issues official determinations concerning compliance. We have seen what American courts do in "interpreting" the Constitution. When the UN gets to "interpret" a treaty, the legal rules can change according to the whims of the Committee.

5. SR 519 urges the rejection of this Treaty- the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. THIRTY Senators have signed SR 519 showing that they believe that American parents should be trusted and that American laws should be made by Americans.

FLDS girl receiving her Best Interest Civil Right
Best interest of the child- A new "Civil Right"
October 16, 2009
Family Rights Examiner Leonard Henderson

Last year, I was cleaning up my computer desktop. One item I came across was a poignant photo of a FLDS girl alone on a bus waving goodbye to her home and the life she knew.

As I was looking at this image, it struck me that- This IS a photo of the "Best Interest of the Child".

And then it struck me- This is a NEW Civil Right

That is, the child has the "right" to have her life decisions made for her by government. HER "BEST INTEREST" CIVIL RIGHTFULL STORY

S. Res. 519, A resolution expressing the sense of the Senate that the primary safeguard for the well-being and protection of children is the family, and that the primary safeguards for the legal rights of children in the United States are the Constitutions of the United States and the several States, and that, because the use of international treaties to govern policy in the United States on families and children is contrary to principles of self-government and federalism, and that, because the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child undermines traditional principles of law in the United States regarding parents and children, the President should not transmit the Convention to the Senate for its advice and consent

Please call your senators and urge them to cosponsor S.R. 519
